Many people around the world use social media every day to keep in touch

with other people and news events.

Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the

disadvantages?

WRITING TASK 2

Nowadays, the prevalence of social media has skyrocketed, gaining immense popularity
among individuals. While it enables individuals to stay connected with diverse individuals
and stay informed about the latest updates, it also exposes personal information to
heightened risks and threats. In my perspective, the drawbacks of this technology will
have significant adverse effects that overshadow its benefits.

One of the paramount advantages of social media is its ability to foster global
interconnectedness. It has effectively bridged the gap between individuals worldwide,
allowing us to communicate with anyone, anytime, and gain insights into their activities
through a single application. Additionally, it grants us effortless access to global events,
enabling us to participate remotely. For instance, when a person shares a live video of a
music concert in America, it can be witnessed by all members of their friend list. Overall,
this automated connectivity facilitates the comprehension of diverse cultures and the
adoption of new experiences.

Conversely, this technology also harbors disadvantages, particularly in terms of

compromising individuals' privacy. In the present era, the incidence of crimes, especially
cybercrimes, is alarmingly on the rise. It has become increasingly challenging to
differentiate between authentic and fake profiles. Hackers exploit vulnerabilities in social
media accounts and may misuse the shared data. People have become accustomed to
sharing their recent activities on social media platforms, inadvertently providing golden
opportunities for criminals. In sum, the drawbacks of this technology extend their reach
to a wide range of individuals.

In conclusion, the widespread usage of social media significantly impacts people's lives.
Despite its potential to bridge cultural gaps, it can also lead individuals into substantial
troubles. Therefore, considering the safety and well-being of individuals, I firmly believe
that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
Some people want governments to spend money looking for life on other
planets. Others, however, think this is a waste of public money when there
are so many problems on Earth.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

WRITING TASK 2

It is argued that the funds allocated from the public for human survival should be
invested in exploring other planets. However, others believe that this money should be
directed towards addressing the challenges we face on our current planet. In my
opinion, it is crucial to use the funds wisely by investing them in resolving Earth's
problems.

To begin with, those who advocate for investing in other celestial bodies are concerned
about the future consequences of our current situation on Earth. The reality is that our
planet is deteriorating due to human negligence and harmful practices. For instance, the
use of private vehicles, while convenient for transportation, contributes to environmental
degradation through the emission of harmful gases. If we continue on this path, the
conditions on our planet will become unsustainable, necessitating a migration to another
planet for survival.

Furthermore, there are arguments supporting the idea of focusing our financial
resources on addressing existing issues rather than investing in other planets. These
proponents suggest that governments should prioritize curbing pollution by allocating
funds to awareness seminars and constructing public transportation systems in
underprivileged areas to reduce environmental harm. By taking such measures, we can
mitigate pollution and preserve our planet for future generations.

In conclusion, while some individuals advocate for investing in the exploration of other
planets, we must not neglect the preservation of our own planet. Therefore, I firmly
believe that the safety and well-being of Earth should be our primary concern, and we
should encourage our governments to allocate the necessary funds to address the
challenges we currently face.
University students should pay the full cost of their studies because a
university education benefits individuals rather than society as a whole.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

WRITING TASK 2

It is argued that learners should bear the full cost of their education because the
personal advantages of obtaining a university degree outweigh the benefits for the
community. This essay will discuss why this viewpoint is flawed and present examples
and observations to support my opinion.

Firstly, the exorbitant fees charged by renowned universities create barriers for talented
and capable individuals who may not have the financial means to afford them. In my
opinion, in such cases, society would suffer more losses than benefits since the world is
in great need of skilled scientists, engineers, medical professionals, and so on. A recent
survey revealed that over 50% of students choose their university based on their
financial circumstances.

Secondly, if educational institutions fail to provide support and offer free positions to
deserving students, there may be a dearth of qualified professionals compared to other
regions. I believe that a possible solution could be the provision of scholarships based
on individual academic achievements, which would incentivize students to study harder
and enhance the university's reputation. For example, Cambridge University is
renowned for its academic excellence and high costs. However, it also offers beneficial
opportunities for diligent learners by covering their expenses, thereby making education
more affordable.

In conclusion, while some argue that the educational system primarily benefits
individuals rather than the public, I strongly believe that we need the opportunity to
choose our educational path based not only on financial considerations but also on
knowledge and talent. Ultimately, this approach yields significant advantages for the
global community, as it ensures a higher caliber of professionals across various fields.
Some people believe that in the modern world individuals are becoming more
and more dependent on each other. Other people believe that individuals are
becoming more independent of each other.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

WRITING TASK 2

In today's interconnected world, there is an ongoing debate about whether we have

become more reliant on one another or if we have embraced individualism. Personally, I
agree with the latter perspective, and in the following paragraphs, I will present
supporting points and reasons for my stance.

While some argue that our dependence on others has increased, there are compelling
reasons to suggest otherwise. Firstly, life has indeed become more challenging in many
aspects. With the escalating cost of living, young individuals often rely on their parents
or partners to meet their basic needs such as food, shelter, and education. Additionally,
the pursuit of ambitious goals has led some individuals to depend on their parents to
take care of their children, pets, and household responsibilities in order to better
compete in their chosen fields.

Nevertheless, there is a notable shift towards self-sufficiency in various domains. For

instance, many countries have witnessed the transformation of joint families into
numerous nuclear families, adept at managing both personal and professional spheres
with skill and efficiency. Furthermore, individuals now leverage global connectivity to the
fullest extent, studying in foreign universities, residing in different countries, and
frequently traveling alone. Moreover, people have adapted to living and working
independently, displaying a remarkable level of self-reliance. Furthermore, the financial
independence of women and their ability to make their own decisions exemplify the
gradual transition towards a more self-sufficient society.

In conclusion, while it is true that humans continue to rely on one another for essential
necessities and maintaining social connections, recent trends indicate that we have
become more self-sustaining as a species than ever before. I anticipate that our pursuit
of independence will only grow in prominence in the future.
In many cities, planners have located shops, schools, offices and homes in
specific areas which may be widely separated from each other.

Do you think the advantages of this policy outweigh the disadvantages for
city residents?

WRITING TASK 2

As urbanization continues to advance, the significance of urban design is increasingly

recognized. Planners advocate for the distinction between commercial and residential
areas. While I acknowledge the potential drawbacks of this approach, I personally
believe that the advantages are far more prominent.

To begin with, it is undeniable that segregating areas for different purposes can have
implications for both mental and physical health. From a mental health standpoint, this
policy can induce stress during commutes between home and work. Lengthy travel
times due to the distance between these two locations can be burdensome, resulting in
increased stress levels. Moreover, traffic congestion, a common issue for workers, can
deplete their energy reserves. By reducing commuting time, individuals would have
more time available, which could lead to improved productivity.

Although there are certain drawbacks associated with distinct areas for different
purposes, the benefits are quite noticeable. Firstly, noise pollution generated by
commercial districts poses a significant problem. The influx of a large number of people
can lead to overcrowding, which citizens generally find undesirable. Secondly, this
situation can also encroach upon individuals' privacy. Homeowners prefer not to expose
their private lives to pedestrians passing by on their way to school or the shops. For
these reasons, I strongly support the viewpoint that advocates for the separation of
different facilities.

In conclusion, while it is true that there may be some drawbacks, overall, the proposal to
segregate various facilities from one another is beneficial. I accept that there may be
certain drawbacks, but the advantages of this approach outweigh them.
Differences between countries are becoming less evident each year.
Nowadays, all over the world we see the same films, fashion, brands,
advertisements and TV channels.

To what extent do the disadvantages of this outweigh the advantages?

WRITING TASK 2

Globalization has led to the widespread adoption of common fashion trends, music
bands, TV shows, and even culinary preferences across the globe. In this essay, I will
explain why the benefits of this phenomenon outweigh the negative aspects.

The advancements in communication technologies have facilitated cultural and linguistic

exchanges between countries. Individuals in Buenos Aires, for example, can take online
English classes with Indian teachers, thereby not only enhancing their language skills
but also gaining knowledge about different cultures and cuisines. Another advantage is
the increased socialization opportunities among people. Contemporary teenagers, for
instance, utilize apps like TikTok to share dances with friends from overseas whom they
have met online. Furthermore, a noteworthy positive aspect is the sharing of
governmental policies, which enhances the collective global experience. The exchange
of information during the COVID-19 pandemic, for instance, has improved the response
to the disease in many countries.

However, globalization also has its downsides. One such disadvantage is the loss of
traditional customs, as they gradually blend with foreign practices and may eventually
disappear altogether. For instance, the introduction of Santa Claus by Americans has
overshadowed the belief in the birth of Christ during Christmas celebrations. Another
negative aspect is the integration of unhealthy eating habits into many cultures. Fast-
food multinational corporations like McDonald's and Starbucks have become widely
available, significantly worsening the dietary patterns of both children and adults
worldwide.

In conclusion, although there are drawbacks to the cultural sharing between countries,
such as the loss of cultural identity and the negative impact on dietary habits, I believe
that the advantages of cultural and linguistic exchanges, fostering new relationships, and
sharing political knowledge far outweigh these disadvantages. Therefore, while some
regulation may be necessary, a complete ban on such exchanges should not be
implemented.
It’s a natural process for animal species to become extinct (e.g. dinosaurs
and dodos no longer exist). There is no reason why people should try to
prevent this from happening.

Do you agree or disagree?

WRITING TASK 2

Recently, there has been a global concern regarding the alarming disappearance of
various species, particularly in the wild. While some individuals argue that this
phenomenon occurs naturally without human intervention, I strongly disagree with this
idea and firmly believe that humans bear significant responsibility for this loss.

To begin with, the deteriorating environment plays a crucial role in the extinction of
numerous creatures on Earth. Industrial activities and transportation emit harmful
pollutants that contribute to the rapid spread of global warming. Consequently, many
animal species struggle to adapt to these changes, leading to a reduction in their
population size. Additionally, the increasing demand for resources such as wood,
agricultural land, and urban development leads to widespread deforestation, which
diminishes the natural habitats of animals. As a result, numerous species are forced to
compete for limited shelters, inadvertently leading to the decline and eventual extinction
of their own kind.

Furthermore, the use of valuable animals for entertainment purposes contributes to the
dwindling population of species. The demand for items derived from animals, such as
crocodile skin, deer antlers, and rhino horns, fuels illegal poaching activities despite their
dwindling numbers. Moreover, many rare and exotic wild animals are confined to zoos
and safaris worldwide, serving as objects of curiosity for human exploration of the
natural environment. This captive existence significantly impacts wild populations,
disrupting food chains and depriving animals of their natural habitats and competitors.

In conclusion, the evidence presented above strongly convinces me that the extinction of
numerous species is an unnatural process primarily caused by human activities.
Therefore, individuals should shoulder the responsibility for the declining biodiversity and
take action to prevent further loss.
WRITING TASK 2
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
Write about the following topic:

The only reason why people work hard is to earn money and there is no other
reason for doing so.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In today's materialistic society, people often dedicate themselves to work tirelessly,

solely driven by the pursuit of a superficial lifestyle and the acquisition of material
possessions. However, I firmly believe that individuals have motivations beyond financial
gain in their professional lives. This essay will discuss the reasons why I strongly believe
that people are driven by more than just monetary rewards in their work.

First and foremost, individuals worldwide aspire to achieve higher goals beyond mere
financial remuneration, such as recognition and self-actualization. Upon completing their
education, individuals desire to secure a good job, strive for promotion, and have their
hard work acknowledged. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs illustrates that financial security
represents the "Safety needs" level, while psychological and self- fulfillment needs
occupy the top of the pyramid, representing prestige, a sense of accomplishment, and
the realization of one's full potential. Therefore, human beings possess a diverse range
of needs that extend beyond the basic safety requirements.

Moreover, apart from the psychological perspective, spiritual factors also play a
significant role. Spiritual needs encompass the search for meaning, purpose, and value
in life, which can also be applicable to the workplace. A prominent example is Mother
Teresa, who is revered for her selflessness and dedication to helping the less fortunate.
This exemplifies that people's reasons for hard work cannot be solely attributed to
financial motives.

In conclusion, based on the arguments presented above, it is inconceivable to believe

that financial remuneration is the sole driving force behind people's work. While
monetary aspirations undoubtedly influence individuals' career choices, it is evident that
spiritual beliefs and the pursuit of personal growth also serve as compelling reasons for
pursuing a job.
In many countries today, if people want to find work, they have to move away
from their friends and their families.

Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the

disadvantages?

WRITING TASK 2

It is undeniable that an increasing number of individuals are choosing to relocate to new

areas in search of better job opportunities, often moving away from their family and
friends. While there are potential benefits to this trend, I believe that its drawbacks
outweigh its advantages.

On one hand, it is important to consider the potential advantages of this tendency.

Moving to new regions can allow individuals to step out of their comfort zones and
significantly broaden their horizons by immersing themselves in different cultures and
traditions, as well as expanding their social networks. Moreover, metropolitan areas
often offer a wide range of well-paying job opportunities, which can meet the high
demands of individuals. For example, in Vietnam, many young people choose to
relocate to cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City for employment prospects, resulting in
improved living standards and stable jobs.

On the other hand, I firmly believe that the trend of moving away from family and friends
has certain negative impacts on individuals. Firstly, many people rely on the support and
encouragement of their parents and acquaintances to stay motivated in their work.
Consequently, the absence of family members can lead to mental health issues such as
depression, which can significantly impact overall well-being. Furthermore, financial
support, particularly for young individuals, plays a crucial role. Without assistance from
parents, they may struggle to afford the high cost of living in urban areas, potentially
forcing them into impoverished conditions.

In conclusion, I hold the view that the disadvantages of this development overshadow its
advantages. Therefore, it is advisable for individuals to maintain frequent contact with
their families and friends to ensure their physical and mental well-being.
Some people think it is more important to spend public money on roads
and motorways than on public transport systems such as railways and
trams.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

WRITING TASK 2

In our fast-paced society, the allocation of capital to transportation systems has become
a subject of controversy. Some argue that governments should prioritize investing in
roads and highways over public transit systems. However, I personally believe that both
road infrastructure and public transportation play crucial roles in modern society and
should receive equal investment.

On one hand, investing in road infrastructure can bring numerous benefits to the
population. Improved road quality enhances safety and reduces traffic accidents. For
instance, in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, a major urban center with a high number of
annual traffic accidents, government funds allocated to widening roads and constructing
motorways have contributed to a decrease in accidents, enabling safer travel for
residents. Additionally, expanding road systems can alleviate traffic congestion during
peak hours, creating more space for a larger volume of vehicles and relieving pressure
on main city routes.

On the other hand, alongside the aforementioned advantages, I firmly believe that
public funds should also be invested in developing public transportation systems due to
several benefits they offer. Firstly, investing in public transport reduces air pollution.
Modes of public transportation such as subways emit fewer pollutants compared to
private cars or motorcycles. Moreover, for individuals without private vehicles, buses
and subways provide a reliable and efficient means of commuting to work on a daily
basis.

In conclusion, I maintain the viewpoint that capital should be allocated wisely to both
road infrastructure and public transportation systems in order to maximize their benefits
for users. By striking a balance between these two areas, governments can achieve
optimal results in transportation efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability.
