Problem Solving Report
INTRODUCTION:
This report is made to address technology related problems that people might face personally or
professionally. In this report each is analyzed, its causes are identified, and potential solutions are
proposed to solve them and prevent future occurrences.
Personal Problems:
1. Bad Directions:
Problem: you and your friend is driving and while approaching your destination, you realize that
your smartphone has instructed you in a wrong way.
Analysis: the possible causes of this thing to happen include outdated GPS data, poor signal,
incorrect input or GPS error.
Solution:
1. Ensure that the navigation app is updated.
2. Ensure a strong GPS signal and double check the address input.
3. Use multiple navigation apps or rely on landmarks.
2.Digital Distraction:
problem: During eating your friend is getting distracted by his mobile phone frequently and you
and him cannot enjoy each other’s company.
Analysis: The constant checking of phone during social interactions can disrupt social meetings
and can annoy other people.
Solution:
1. Establish a phone free rule during meals and social gathering with your friend.
2. To use mobile phone only when there is something important to do during such meetups
and gatherings.
3. Discuss the importance of quality time without distractions with your friend.
4. Try to utilize the apps that limit phone usage.
3.Smart thermostat:
Problem: you programmed your apartment thermostat to turn down heat during day but you
used your app to instruct it to increase heat by 5 degrees but it did not happen.
Analysis: the problem seems to be of syncing error between thermostat and app or connectivity
issues.
Solution:
1. Restart the thermostat and check the wi-fi connection.
2. Check the thermostat battery.
3. Verify the app settings and see if they are correctly applied.
4. Manually reset the thermostat if necessary.
4.Unauthorized Charges:
Problem: you receive notifications from credit card company that you made several expensive
charges that you do not recognize.
Analysis: This could be due to fraudulent activity or errors in recent transactions. It can be also
due to unauthorized access to your credit card details by someone.
Solution:
1. Report these notifications and charges immediately to the credit card company.
2. Change your passwords and monitor your account for further unauthorized activity.
3. Review recent transactions made by you to identify any suspicious activity.
4. Review your statements regularly.
5. Only shop from secure sites.
6. Use strong passwords.
7. Use trusted payment methods.
8. Try to avoid phishing scams as there are many in the market.
1. Try researching and suggesting environmentally friendly disposal options e.g waste
recycling.
2. Explore donation programs.
3. Contact a professional e-waste disposal service.
4. Securely erase all data from the old laptop before disposal.
5. It is important to follow environmentally friendly practices.
10.Synchronization Error:
Problem: you added appointments to calendar on computer but they don’t show up on
smartphone and calendar events are not syncing between devices.
Analysis: the possible causes due to which it can happen include sync settings are off or issues
with the account.
Solution:
1. Check your calendar settings and ensure your accounts are linked correctly.
2. Try manually syncing your devices.
3. Check and add sync settings on both devices.
4. Ensure both devices are connected to the internet.
