"There is/there are" means HABER. For example, in Spanish I can say:

-"Hay un lápiz en mi mesa". / -"Hay tres mesas en la clase".

In English, we differentiate SINGULAR and PLURAL:


-"There is a pencil on my table". / -"There are three tables in the classroom".
Quantifiers express QUANTITY.

If we want to ask about a quantity, we


must use HOW MUCH (for uncountable
nouns) and HOW MANY (for countable
nouns):

How much money have you got?


¿Cuánto dinero tienes?

How many coins have you got?


¿Cuántas monedas tienes?
