10.m2v-1s-1 is the unit of which of the following?

a)Drift velocity b)Mobility c)Resistivity d)Potential gradient
II.ASSERTION AND REASON QUESTIONS
For the following questions ,two statements are given –one labeled assertion A and other labelled as
Reason R. Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes a, b, c, d as given below
a)Both A and R are true and R is correct explanation of A
b)Both A and R are true and R is not correct explanation of A
c)A is true but R is false
d)A is false and R is also False
1.Assertion(A): The drift velocity of electrons in a metallic conductor decreases with rise of
temperature of a conductor.
Reason (R) :On increasing temperature ,the collision of electrons with lattice ions increases ;this
hinders the drift of electrons.
2.Assertion(A):The resistance of a given mass of copper wire is inversely proportional to the square
of length.
Reason (R) :When a copper wire of given mass is stretched to increases its length ,its cross sectional
area also increases.
3.Assertion(A):With 9increases in drift velocity ,the current flowing through a metallic conductor
decreases.
Reason ( R):The current flowing in a conductor is inversely proportional to drift velocity.
4.Assertion ( A):The conductivity of a electrolyte is very low as compared to metal at room
temperature .
Reason ( R): The number density of free ions in electrolyte is much smaller as compared to number
density of free electrons in metals. Further ,ions drift much more slowly ,being heavier.
5.Assertion(A):Manganin and constantan are widely used in standard resistors.
Reason( R):Manganin and constantan resistances value would change very little with temperature.

III.CASE STUDY
When the terminals of a cell are connected to a conductor resistance R ,an electric current flows
through the circuit. The electrolyte of the cell also offer some resistance in the path of current, like
conductor .This resistance offered by a electrolyte is called internal resistance of a cell(r).It depends
on nature of the electrolyte, the area of the electrode immersed in the electrolyte and the
temperature .Due to a internal resistance of a cell is wasted in the form of heat.
When no current is drawn from the cell, the potential difference between the
two electrodes is known as emf of a cell ε.With current drawn from the cell ,the potential difference
between the two electrodes is termed as terminal potential difference (V).
1.Choose the correct statemen)
a)The potential difference V between the two terminals of a cell in a closed circuit is always less than
its emf, during the discharge of a cell.
b)The internal resistance of a cell decreases with decreases in temperature of the electrolyte.
c)When current drawm from the cell V= ε-IR
d)The graph between potential difference potential difference between the two terminals of a cell V
and current I through it is a straight line with negative slope

parallel. The equivalent emf of the combination is
a) 2V b)2.8V c)6V d)8V
3.Dipped in the solution ,the electrode exchanges charges with the electrolyte. The positive electrode
develops a potential V+(>0) and the negative electrode develops potential –V-(≥0),relative to the
electrolyte adjacent to it.when no current is drawn from the cell then
a) ε=V+ +V->0 b) ) ε=V+ -V->0 c) ) ε=V+ -V-<0 d) ) ε=V+ -V-=0
