INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATE/ STUDENT

3. All queries should be directed to the examiner, Head of Department, or Dean.
4. You have SIX HOURS to complete this paper. No exam answer sheet shall be accepted after the
6 hours (the system has closed).
5. This is an OPEN BOOK (Online) examination.
6. Attempt 4 Questions in total. All questions carry equal marks (25 marks each).
7. All questions are COMPULSORY
8. Read each question carefully before beginning to type/write your answers.
9. Review the grades assigned to each question of the examination and allocate your time
accordingly.
10. Review your answers carefully before submitting your examination.

QUESTION ONE:
a) Find the second derivative of f(x) = sin x/ (1 - cos x). (5 marks)

b) Give that , find d2y/dx2 . (5 marks)

c) Find the derivative of (5 marks)


d) Find the Second derivative of y= arcsine (cos (x)) (5 marks)
e) If the function f(x) = x3 − 6x2 + ax + b satisfies the interval [1, 3] and f’ [(2√ 3 + 1) / √3] = 0,
then find the value of a. (5 marks)

QUESTION TWO:
a) Giving an example sequence under each case, explain the distinction between Arithmetic
Sequence and Geometric Sequence. Under your explanation also give expressions for the
nth for each Sequence type (5 marks)
b) Given the sequence: 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, 42, 56…..Find the Explicit formular based on this
sequence. (5 marks)
c) Find the general term (or) nth term of the arithmetic sequence -1/2, 2, 9/2, ..... (5 marks)

d) Find a25, if (5 marks)

e) The first, second and the last term of an AP are a, b and c, respectively. Prove that the sum
of the AP is [(a + c)(b + c – 2a)/2(b – a)]. (5 marks)
