Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the level of electronic sports engagement

of Grade 12 Senior High School Students of Iloilo City National High School

during School Year 2018-2019.

Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the level of electronic sports engagement of Senior High

School Students in terms of frequency in going to the computer

shop when group according to sex, strand, and general average

and monthly family income?

2. What is the level of electronic sports engagement of Senior High

School Students in terms of money spent when group according to

sex, strand, and general average and monthly family income?

3. What is level of electronic sports engagement of Senior High School

Students in terms of academic performance when according to sex,

strand, general average and monthly family income?

4. Is there a significant difference in the level of electronic sports

engagement in terms of frequency of students going to computer

Significance of the Study

engagement in electronic sports. In that way, they could find ways how to

help their children manage their time and cope up with their academic

performance.

Administration, this study can make the administration aware of the

level of electronic sports engagement of students. In that way, they can

make strategies that could help students in their education.

Future Researchers, this study can help those who are interested to

have a further study about electronic sports engagement. This can be a

reference that could help them overcome their endeavors.

species and that are distinguished respectively as a female of male especially

In this study, it is the state of being male of female.

Monthly Family Income- Is an economic capacity of household.

In this study, it is the amount of money spent by student with the

relation to their economic status.

Strand- Strand is an educational pathway that is specialized in certain

subjects that leads to certain type of profession (www.merriam-

In this study, it is a different specialization in the Senior High

School which consists of STEM, ABM, HUMSS at Iloilo City National High

School.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

How. In any order.

This study aimed to determine the level electronic sports

engagement of Grade 12 Senior High School Students during school year

2018-2019. The descriptive research design was used in this study.

The subject of this investigation was the Grade 12 SHS students of the

STEM ABM and HUMMS strand. This study was focus on sex, strand, general

average and monthly family income as independent variable and level of

electronic sports engagement as dependent variables.

The data needed for this investigation were gathered through the use

of research instruments: validated by the Research Adviser, and experts in

Information Communication Technology. To describe the data gathered, the

mean was used for descriptive Analysis while the t-test and ANOVA for

inferential Analysis. The level of significance was set at 0.05 alpha.

All the statistical computation was computer-processed using the

Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Software.

Chapter 3

Research Design and Methodology

Research Design

This study aims to determine the Level of Electronic Sports

Engagement of Grade 12 Senior High School Students (ABM, STEM and

HUMSS strand)

In this study, the researchers utilized the descriptive method

particularly the survey design to find out the Level of Electronic Sports

Engagement of Grade 12 Senior High School Students of Iloilo City National

High School Senior High School Department. The independent variables were

sex, strand, general average and monthly family income and dependent

variable were the Level of Electronic sports engagement in terms of:

frequency in going to computer shops, money spent and academic

performance.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study were 124 grade 12 Senior High School

students of Iloilo City National High School who were chosen randomly from a

total population of 179 enrolled during the academic year 2018-2019. The

Sloven’s formulas shown below, was used to determine the total sample size.

N = population,

e = margin of error

The Random Sampling was employed in the selection of the

respondents of the study. The Lottery technique was used where the name of

the respondents were taken from the adviser’s copy, written in small pieces

of paper, rolled and pick up randomly based on number of sample size.

Data Gathering Instrument

This study utilized the researcher-made instrument. This is divided into

2 parts.

Part One, Personal Data Sheet. This is a brief information sheet about

the participants name, sex, strand, general average and monthly family

income.

Part Two, Instrument, this is composed of instructions on how to

answer the

questionnaire. The instrument was composed of 15 items which are grouped

into three factors such as; frequency of the students on going to computer

shops, money spent and academic performance.

The instrument identified five levels of Electronic sports engagement

the level of Electronic Sports Engagement was indicated by the score of 1, 2,

3, 4 5.

Data Gathering Procedure

Step by step procedure of what you did before during and after the conduct

of the study.

In October 16, 2018 permission to conduct the study was secured from

Office of the Asst. Principals of Senior High School Department of Iloilo City

National High School. After the approval of the two Asst. Principal, the

researchers administered the questionnaire during the first semester of

academic year 2018-2019.

After the retrieval of the questionnaire, the result were treated

statistically in order to generate results on the level of electronic sports

engagement of the Grade 12 Senior High School Students of Iloilo City

National High School.

Data Analysis Procedure

Determine the appropriate statistical tools for your study.

The data obtained in this investigation was subjected to the following

descriptive and inferential statistical analysis using the Statistical Package for

Social Sciences (SPSS) software Version 20.

Mean was used to describe the Level of Electronic Sport Engagement of

the Senior High School Students when classified according to sex, strand,

general average and monthly family income.

t-test was used to determine a significant difference in the level of

electronic sports engagement between male and female.

Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to determine a significant

difference in the level of electronic sports engagement between strands,

general average and monthly family income

All statistical computations were computer-processed using the

Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software set at 0.05 level of

significance.

The decision to reject or not reject the null hypothesis in othis study

was based from the alpha level 0.5 level of significance.

Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation.

Summary

Conducted on the Second Semester 2018, this investigation aimed to

determine

the Level of Electronic Sports Engagement of Senior High School Students of

Iloilo City National High School for Academic Year 2018-2019. The

respondents of the study were the 179 Senior High School students chosen

by using Random Sampling, Lottery Technique.

This study endeavored to determine the level of Electronic sports

engagement of Senior High School students in terms of Frequency of

students going to the computer shop, Money spent Academic performance

when respondents are classified according to sex, general average and

monthly financial income The data used in this study was obtained through

the use of the researcher’s made instrument on Level of Electronic Sports

Engagement of Grade 12 Senior High School Students

The mean was utilized as descriptive statistical tool to determine the

level of Electronic Sports Engagement when classified according to sex,

strand general average and monthly financial income. The t-test was

employed to determine the significant difference in the level of Electronic

Sports Engagement when classified according to sex. The ANOVA was utilized

to determine the significant difference in the level of Electronic Sports

Engagement when classified according to strand. Statistical Package for

Social Science Version 20 (SPSS) software was used in doing statistical data

processing and the computations was set at 0.05 level of significance.

Findings

The researcher found out that:

1. Senior High School students when group according to sex have a ‘’ Low

Level of Electronic Sports Engagement‘’ on male and ‘’Very Low Level of

Electronic Sports Engagement’’ on female on the area of Frequency of

students going to the computer shop. ‘’Very Low Level of Electronic Sports

Engagement’’ on the area of money spent, and ‘’Low Level of Electronic

Sports Engagement’’ on the area of Academic performance.

2. When respondents were classified according to strand, all strand have a

Very Low Level of Electronic Sports Engagement in frequency of students

going to the computer shop, money spent except for Academic

performance that has a Low Level of Electronic Sports Engagement There

is no significant difference in the level of Electronic Sports Engagement of

Grade 12 Senior High School students when group according to sex.

3. When respondents were classified according to general average, Very Low

Level of Electronic Sports Engagement on both Outstanding and Very

Satisfactory, Low Level of Electronic Sports Engagement on both Fairly

Satisfactory and Satisfactory on the area of Frequency of students going

to the computer shop, Very Low Level of Electronic Sports Engagement on

all area of Money Spent, Low level of Electronic Sports Engagement on all

area of Academic performance except for Fairly Satisfactory which has a

Very Low Level of Satisfactory.

4. When respondents were classified according to monthly financial income,

all have a Very Low Level of Electronic Sports Engagement in frequency of

students going to the computer shop, financial aspect except for

Academic performance that has a Low Level of Electronic Sports

Engagement.

Engagement in terms of frequency of students in going to computer shop,

6. There is a no significant difference in the Level of Electronic Sports

Engagement in terms of

frequency of students in going to computer shop, money spent and

academic performance

among the Grade 12 Senior High student when group according to strand.

7. There is a no significant difference in the Level of Electronic Sports

Engagement in terms of

frequency in going to computer shop and money spent except for

Academic performance that

there is a significant difference among the Grade 12 Senior High School

Students when

group according to general average indicator.

8. There is a no significant difference in the Level of Electronic Sports

Engagement in terms of

frequency in going to computer shop and money spent except for

Academic performance that

there is a significant difference among the Grade 12 Senior High School

Students when

group according to monthly family income.

Conclusions

The following conclusions are drawn from the findings of the study:

1. The overall result on the Level of Electronic Sports Engagement of Senior

High School Students when group according to sex in terms of frequency

of students going to the computer shop, Money Spent, Academic

performance was considered as both ‘’Very Low ’’and ‘’Low’’. With this, it

was concluded that both male and female can manage their electronic

sports engagement very well. They have a very close means signifies that

both of them can manage well their electronic sports engagement in

frequency of students going to the computer shop, money spent, and

academic performance.

2. There was a ‘Very Low Level of Electronic Sports Engagement of Senior

High School students when group according to strand in Frequency of

students going to the computer shop, Money spent, Academic

performance except for STEM, ABM, HUMMS on Academic performance

which have the Low Level of Electronic Sports Engagement in all factors.

With this, it was concluded that all strand can manage their electronic

sports engagement very well.

3. The overall result on the Level of Electronic Sports Engagement of Senior

High School Students when group according to general average in terms

of frequency of students going to the computer shop, Money spent,

Academic performance was considered as both ‘’Very low’’ and ‘’Low’’.

With this, it was concluded that they can manage their electronic sports

engagement very well that correlates with their general average of having

high academic performance.

4. The overall result on the Level of Electronic Sports Engagement of Senior

High School Students when group according to monthly financial income

in terms of frequency of students going to the computer shop, Money

spent, Academic performance, was considered a Very Low Level of

Electronic Sports, with this, it was concluded that they can manage their

socio economic status very well while engaging in electronic sports.

Recommendations

Further research is recommended to investigate the ‘’ Level of

Electronic Sports

Engagement of Senior High School students to other public high school in the

Division of Iloilo City offering Senior High School Curriculum in order to

validate the findings of the research.
