OVERVIEW
OVERVIEW
This section describes the points of measure standards for Ralph Lauren product lines
unless otherwise stated
GENERAL GUIDELINES—KNITS
• Garments should be measured on a clean, flat, smooth surface—not on top of other
garments, fabric, carpet or other surface that may distort the garments.
• Garments should be gently smoothed of all wrinkles and lay completely flat on the
table. On self start garments, the front and back bottom edges MUST be even.
(Exception: where front and back body lengths are different).
• Tape measures should be quality flexible metal and should be accurate to 1/16". All
tape measures should be calibrated regularly for accuracy against a metal ruler.
• All measurements should be FLAT. (Exception: Total Collar Length point to point,
Cap Width).
• This manual diagrams guide points for measuring. In addition, specific details
must be followed according to final spec page.
• All measurements must be met. Tolerance exists to allow for manufacturing and
shrinkage deviations only.
• Measurements outside of tolerance are unacceptable and should be reported to the
QA specialist.
DEFINITIONS
For this manual, the following definitions apply:
HIGH SHOULDER POINT (HSP)
The high shoulder point is where the fold at top of body meets the neck seam for all
garments. This point of reference is used for total body length, shoulder slope, across
chest reference point, and pocket place

IMAGINARY LINE
The imaginary line is a straight horizontal line from high shoulder point to high shoulder
point. This point of reference is used for shoulder slope, front and back neck drop
measures.

For raglan, saddle shoulder, etc., the high shoulder point is where the fold at the top of
the body meets the neck seam.
This point of reference is used for total body length, shoulder slope, across chest
reference point and pocket placement.
Imaginary Line – The imaginary line is a straight line from high shoulder point to high
shoulder point.
This point of reference is used for shoulder slope, front and back neck drop measures.
