Girl: I’m interested in ancient history. We’ve done some at school, but I’d
like to know more. I’ve borrowed books about it from the library. Girl: I agree. Also, not everyone likes the same films. I think a party in the
classroom is a good idea. It’s easy and cheap for everyone. The teacher

would probably bring the drinks and snacks.
Boy: I don’t know. Maybe science. I like to know more about how the
world works. Boy: Yes, and everyone can talk. What about the museum?

Interlocutor: Tell us about your favourite day of the week. Girl: I’m not sure about that. It looks like a science museum, so it
depends if you’re interested in science. I’m sure it would be difficult to

and see some animals. What’s your opinion?
Interlocutor: And you?
Girl: I don’t know about that. It might be difficult for some people to do.
Girl: I think Saturday. That’s the weekend for me. I go to a hip-hop class

and we have a takeaway in the evenings.
Interlocutor: Do you like reading? Boy: OK. How about singing songs together? That sounds like a fun thing
to do in the classroom. Everyone can join in. I think it’s a great idea.
Boy: Not really. Well, I like magazines about technology and the future.
But I don’t like reading books. I get bored. Girl: I think so too. Not everyone can play an instrument and not
everyone’s a good singer, but it’s always fun to do that together. What’s

Girl: About two hours at school. Sometimes I watch TV in English, but it’s
quite hard to understand. I listen to lots of American music too. Boy: Well, I like the idea of singing together.
Interlocutor: Tell us about how you spend time with friends. Girl: Well, they’re both in the classroom, so we agree about that.
Girl: We watch and make videos for our friends. My best friend plays the
guitar and I sing, so we sometimes make up songs.

SPEAKING PART 2
A This photo shows three people and a dog in the foreground.
It looks like a family because there’s a woman and two children.
76 I think the woman is their mother. It looks as though the dog is
helping the woman because maybe she can’t see or can’t see
very well. The dog helps her to find her way around. The dog is white or
yellow – I’m not sure what kind of dog it is, but it looks patient because it
is working. The people are all wearing casual clothes, and the woman’s
got dark glasses on. Maybe the children have been to school because
they’ve got backpacks, I think. It looks like they might be going for a walk
in a park because in the background there’s grass and some trees. On the
right of the picture there’s a seat and there’s also some water – maybe
it’s a lake? There are buildings beyond the park.

SPEAKING PART 4
Interlocutor: What special occasions does your school celebrate?
Boy: We celebrate the end of term. We’ve got three terms each
78 year and we do something different at the end of each one.
Girl: We do too. So, in winter, we see a film in the school hall, and in
summer, we have a sports day on the field.
Boy: That sounds fun. We have talks by students and the headteacher,
but they’re fun and interesting.
Interlocutor: Do you go to any clubs at your school?
Girl: I’m sorry, I don’t know what you mean.
Interlocutor: Does your school have a sports club or music club?
Girl: Oh, yes. We’ve got those things, and you can learn to cook after
school as well.
Boy: I’d like to do that. Our school has a football team and a music club,
but I’m not really interested in those things.
Interlocutor: What kind of club would you like your school to have, for
example, an art club?
Boy: Actually, I’d like to learn chess so I can beat my grandad! Some
schools have chess clubs. What kind of club would you like?
Girl: I’d like an art club! I like painting, but I’d like to improve.
Boy: Me too.
Interlocutor: Is it important for schools to have sports teams?
Boy: I don’t think so, because I’m not into sport. But I think it’s important
to do exercise. I just think we should have more options. I’d like to do
tennis or dance.
Girl: So, would I. My friend’s school does dance lessons, but we only do
athletics and team sports. But they teach you how to be good in a team
and work with other people.
Interlocutor: What kind of activities can bring students closer together at
school?
Girl: I suppose anything where students work together in groups. Like
when they research a topic or do a project.
Boy: Yes, and social activities too. Like, breaks are a good time to chat
and make friends, I think.
Girl: I agree.
Interlocutor: Does school help students to learn useful skills?
Boy: I think so.
Girl: I think so too.
Interlocutor: What skills do you learn at school?
Girl: Well, apart from subjects, you learn how to communicate with other
people, you learn to be patient when someone else is talking …
Boy: Yes, and you learn thinking skills too. And you learn how to decide
whether what you read is the truth, things like that.
