7.0 Output of Micro – Project: -

7.1 Introduction: -
• Access to clean and safe drinking water is a fundamental necessity
for human health and well-being. Unfortunately, water from
various sources can be contaminated with impurities, pollutants,
and microorganisms that pose health risks. Domestic water
purifiers have become essential appliances for many households,
providing a convenient and effective solution to ensure the safety
of drinking water.
• This report outlines the working principles, types, benefits, and
maintenance of domestic water purifiers, with a focus on
improving water quality at the household level.

7.2 Types of Domestic Water Purifier: -

• Activated Carbon Filters: These purifiers use activated carbon
to adsorb impurities and chemicals, such as chlorine, organic
compounds, and odors.

- 11 -
Micro - Project A. G. P. P. I. PHE [22504]

• Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems: RO systems use a

semipermeable membrane to remove a wide range of
contaminants, including heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, and
dissolved solids.

• Ultraviolet (UV) Purifiers: UV purifiers disinfect water by

exposing it to ultraviolet light, eliminating harmful
microorganisms.

- 12 -
Micro - Project A. G. P. P. I. PHE [22504]

• Ceramic Filters: Ceramic filters are effective at removing

sediments, bacteria, and cysts, and are often used in conjunction
with other purification methods.

• Gravity-Based Purifiers: These units rely on gravity to push

water through multiple filtration stages, typically incorporating
activated carbon and ceramic filters.

7.3 Benefits of Domestic Water Filter

• Improved Water Quality: Water purifiers effectively remove
impurities, chemicals, and microorganisms, resulting in safe and
clean drinking water.
• Health Protection: Purified water reduces the risk of waterborne
diseases, especially in regions with questionable water quality.
• Convenience: Access to purified water at home eliminates the
need to buy bottled water and reduces plastic waste.
• Taste and Odor Improvement: Water purifiers can enhance the
taste and odor of tap water by removing unpleasant flavors and
smells.
7.4 Maintenance and Care: -
• Filter Replacement: Follow manufacturer guidelines for
replacing filters as recommended. This can vary from a few
months to a year.
• Cleaning: Clean and sanitize water storage tanks or reservoirs
periodically.
• Check UV Lamps: For UV purifiers, check and replace UV
lamps according to the manufacturer's instructions.
• Professional Servicing: Consider professional servicing and
calibration for complex systems like RO purifiers.
• Quality Control: Regularly check the quality of purified water
to ensure that the system is functioning properly.

7.5 Challenges and Consideration: -

• Initial Cost: Some purifiers can be expensive to install,
especially RO systems.
• Waste Water: RO systems produce a significant amount of
wastewater, which should be responsibly disposed of.
• Energy Consumption: UV purifiers require electricity to
function.
• Maintenance Costs: Ongoing maintenance costs, including
filter replacements, should be factored in.
