Chapter 1
Introduction

The SimcenterTM MicredTM Power Tester Post-Processing Tool software offers a convenient
and easy-to-use possibility of examining power cycling data obtained from Power Tester
measurements.
The Post-Processing Tool displays the cycling data on your computer’s screen; in this way, it
gives a possibility to examine the obtained information, perform measurements, determine
initial corrections and export the cycling data.

The Post-Processing Tool is suitable for minor manipulating operations - however, for more
meticulous and comprehensive manipulation options of the Rth measurements during power
cycling, we recommend using the T3STER Master software.

The Menu Bar

The Menu Bar

The Menu Bar is located in the upper part of the Post-Processing Tool’s main window, offering
the common setting options for managing a project.
The Menu Bar also provides alternate access to certain elements of the The Toolbar. The
options are discussed more thoroughly in Operation.

The Toolbar
The Toolbar is found in the upper part of the Post-Processing Tool’s desktop, and it contains
options which are suitable for examining and manipulating the cycling data results.
The availability of certain toolbar items depends on the active parameter views; these are
discussed more thoroughly in Operation.

The Project Bar

The Project Bar contains all the opened projects. At each of the opened projects, the Long Term
Parameters the Short Term Parameters are listed; if the thermal resistance was measured as
well, the Structure Function subtree is also available here.

The Parameter Views

The Parameter views are accessible from the Project Bar, double-clicking on the views listed in
Long Term Parameters, Short Term Parameters or Structure Function.

Parameter Views

Parameter Views
Parameter views are graphical representations of different measurement aspects of the cycling
data.
Currently opened projects are displayed in the Project Bar, on the left side of the screen.

There are three main groups of parameter views:

• Long Term Parameters

• Short Term Parameters
• Structure Function views (if the cycling data contains thermal resistance
measurement)
The Power Tester equipment and Control Software allow the measurement of both DUTs and
sensor diodes in each position on all channels. In case the cycling data in a project folder
contains both DUT and sensor diode measurement in a specific position on the same channel,
the parameter views are separated for the two types of devices in the project bar of the graphical
user interface of the Post-Processing Tool:

Long Term Parameters

In long term parameters, we see electrical and thermal measurement results in regard to cycle
numbers. As such, the x-axis of these parameter views are always scaled in Cycle Numbers.
Tip
If you right-click on a long term parameter view, a pop-up window (Figure 2-2) appears and
you can decide which curves do you want to see.

Figure 2-2. Channel selector in long term parameter views

If there are too many measurement points in a view, you can set the number of data points to
display by clicking Edit > Options. The available options let you set the number of loaded data
points, filter peaks the plot and (in case of short term parameter views) smooth the baseplate and
external channel waveform (Figure 2-3).

In Options, you can also set the resolution and the font type of images to be exported of views
which can be obtained in Export, by using the image exporting options.

Short Term Parameters

In short term parameters, electrical and thermal measurement results are displayed in regard to
one particular cycle. The x-axis therefore is always shown in seconds, referring to the duration
of the actual cycle, or in case of the cooling plot, the time after switching off the high current.
With the help of the slider at the bottom of each view, you may switch between cycles; they are
sorted according to the value you have specified in the PWT Control Software, in the Setup
Power Cycling/Save Interval option.

You can export short term parameter views into a TXT file or an image, as seen on

Export Data
Using the Export Data option, you can export long term parameter data from the active
parameter view, in TXT format.
A dialog window opens where you can select the folder to save the data.

Enter the basename of the files to be exported. The data according to each channel is exported
as <basename>_ch<n>_pos<m>.txt, where <basename> is the entered name, and <n> is the
number of the channel (numbering starting at 0). <m> is the number of the position (in cases
where no multiplexer was used, this value is always 0).

Export All or Currently Shown Rth Measurement

Using the Export Currently Shown Rth Measurement option, you can export Rth
measurement data from the active Rth parameter view, in TXT format. The Export All Rth
Measurements option exports all Rth measurement data at the same time.

Operation
Display as T(j)

Select the directory where the exported files will be saved.

Several files will be created with the name <n>_<m>_<cycleno>.par and

<n>_<m>_<cycleno>.raw, where <n> is the channel number (numbering starting at 0 or 1, see
Figure 2-3), and <cycleno> is the number of the power cycle at which the Rth measurement was
done. <m> is the number of the position (numbering starting at 0 or 1). In cases where no
multiplexer was used, this value is always 0.

Save Image
Clicking this option will prompt a dialogue panel in which you can decide where you want to
save the currently active view as an image.

Copy Image to Clipboard

This option makes a screenshot of the currently active view which you can insert into an image
editing software (MS Paint, Photoshop, etc).
You can set the resolution of images to be exported in Edit> Options (see Figure 2-3 on
page 14).

Display as T(j)
This icon has limited availability.
It is only available if the Device Voltage @ Measurement Current [V] parameter view is active
(Short Term Parameters subproject).

This option is also available from Edit.

The x-axis is shown in seconds, referring to the duration of the cooling phase (OFF-phase) of
the actual cycle. The y-axis of the view is scaled in voltage [V], referring to the measured
device’s voltage change. Clicking the Display as T(j) icon, the y-axis will be scaled in [°C],
referring to the change of the junction temperature.
