Cement mortar ratio shall be as per technical specification. (1:6 for 200 mm thick ness &
1:4 for 125 mm thick wall )
The thickness of joints shall not exceed 10mm. All joints on exposed faces shall be tooled
to give concave finish.
The brick work shall be built in uniform layers. Joint faces which are to be plastered or
pointed shall be squarely raked to a depth of 12mm. Corners and other advanced work shall
be raked back. Brickwork shall be done true to plumb or in specified batter. All courses
shall be laid truly horizontal and vertical joints shall be truly vertical. Vertical joints in
alternate courses shall come directly one over other. During construction, no part of work
shall rise more than one metre above the general construction level to avoid unequal
settlement and improper jointing. Where this is not possible, the works shall be raked back
according to the bond (and not toothed) at an angle not steeper than 45 degrees. Toothing
may also be permitted where future extension is contemplated.
Where fresh masonry is to join with masonry that is partially/entirely set, the exposed
jointing surface of the set masonry shall be cleaned, roughened and wetted, so as to effect
the best possible bond with the new work. All loose bricks and mortar or other material shall
be removed. In the case of vertical or inclined joints, it shall be further ensured that proper
bond between the old and new masonry is obtained by interlocking the bricks. Any portion
of the brickwork that has been completed shall remain undisturbed until thoroughly set.
Green work shall be protected from rain by suitable covering and shall be kept constantly
moist on all faces for a minimum period of seven days. Brick work carried out during the
day shall be suitably marked indicating the date on which the work is done so as to keep a
watch on the curing period. The top of the masonry work shall be left flooded with water at
the close of the day. Watering may be done carefully so as not to disturb or wash out the
green mortar.During hot weather, all finished or partly completed work shall be covered or
wetted in such a manner as will prevent rapid drying of the brickwork.
For 125 mm thickness wall stretcher bond shall be followed and for 200 mm thickness
English bond shall be followed.

place in GI sheet or GI tray but not in ground surface.
2. Check for acceptable bricks are used in the workplace.
3. Check for wet and skin dry bricks used in the work place.
4. Ensure brick works cured for 7 days to get sufficient hardened.
5. Check for concrete band are used at every 1 meter of 125 mm thick wall.
