나: Good afternoon Sir!

아빠: Good afternoon.

나: Thank you for spending your time for this interview. Just to briefly introduce myself, I am Park
Sein, a Year 1 student studying Pharmacy in the National University of Singapore. Before we start
our interview, may I know how you would like me to address you?

아빠: You can address me Mr Park.

나: That’s great. So Mr Park, this interview is part of my module activity, where I will be learning
how to take medical and medication history of patients in detail, and I will also develop my
necessary communication skills as a pharmacist. This interview will last around 10 to 15 minutes,
and you can stop anytime you want. Do you have any questions regarding the interview process?

아빠: Nope. All good.

나: Alright. Then may I first ask how old you are? And your height and weight also if you know
them.

아빠: I’m 51 at the moment. I’m 174 centimetres tall, 78 kg.

나: May I ask your occupation?

아빠: I work as a government official.

나: Do you have any past medical history? For example, any diseases, conditions and surgeries that
you went through before.

아빠: I have high blood pressure, diabetes and I had a surgery because of the appendicitis 어펜디
사이티스.

나: Do you recall when you were diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure?

아빠: diabetes was 2018 I think and high blood pressure… um can’t recall. I think around 2000.

나: What about the surgery?

아빠: It was 1987 by right.

나: Okay. So I expect you must be taking quite a number of drugs. Can I ask what medications you
are taking right now?

아빠: The drugs are for high blood pressure, diabetes and it says “hyperlipidemia 하이퍼리피디미
아”…? Yeah.

나: What did the pharmacist tell you about the doses? Did they kind of warn you with any side
effects that you might face?

아빠: for all of them I take one tablet per day since 2006. Uuh no warnings if I remember correctly.

나: Okay. Are you currently taking any supplements? Like vitamins and any other medicine that you
can buy without a prescription.

아빠: I take something called “Dangnotop”. It’s a Korean supplement for diabetes. They say it’s
banana leaf extract. But I don’t know it if’s working or not hahaha.

나: Do you take herbal or traditional medicines? I know quite a number of Asian adults do.

아빠: Nope

나: Are you vaccinated for any kind of vaccination?

아빠: I get flu vaccines every year, I got three COVID vaccines, and pneumonia vaccine last year also.

나: Did anyone in your family had or have any long-term health issues such as heart disease, lung
disease?

아빠: My mom has high blood pressure and diabetes just like me, and my brother and sister are all
very healthy.

나: Now I’ll be asking some social history questions. Do you smoke by any chance? Or do you drink
often?

아빠: I don’t smoke at all, and I do drink sometimes.

나: Roughly how much do you drink on weekly basis?

아빠: 1~2 bottles of soju to be right.

나: Do you have any specific diet that you pursue? For example, vegetarian, vegan and those.

아빠: I’m not vegetarian. Most of the food is meat and I usually eat a lot haha.

나: Alright. Oh you told me you work as a government official. Do you drink coffee a lot? I mean
you must have a lot of works right.

아빠: Not that much. Like a couple of cups a day? I drink less compared to my colleagues.

나: Then how do you relieve your stress from work? Do you go for any physical activities?

아빠: I play table tennis 3 days per week, and play golf like once a month with my friends.

나: Ok. Have you travelled to any countries other than Singapore?

아빠: I’ve been to the UK, Germany, Malaysia, Indonesia and some more. Can’t remember every
place tho.

나: Have you had contact with anyone with infectious diseases before?

아빠: If you mean the corona then no.

나: Okay this is the last question from me today! Do you have any chronic symptoms? This can
include headache, loss of appetite, constipation, nausea and etcetera.

아빠: I have allergic rhinitis. This is very common for Koreans. And I get diarrhoea when I eat noodles
and pork.

나: Alright. Please go see doctor if those symptoms do not get better okay? I guess this is all from
me today! Thank you so much for your time, Mr Park. I really appreciate your kindness.

아빠: Your welcome. Hope this helps your learning. See you.

나: Take care!
