METHODOLOGY
Introduction:
1. Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what synonyms and antonyms are.
2. Allow a few students to share their understanding.
3. Explain that synonyms are words that have similar meanings, while antonyms are words that have
opposite meanings.
4. Tell the students they will learn more about synonyms and antonyms and how to use them in their
writing.
Questioning:
1. Ask students to provide examples of synonyms for common words such as “happy,” “big,” “small,”
“fast,” etc.
2. Ask students to provide examples of antonyms for the abovementioned words.
3. Encourage students to explain why they think the words they provided are synonyms or antonyms.
Individual task:
Have students take turns and pick an index card with a word written on it. They should then provide a
synonym or antonym for that word.
Summarize the lesson by emphasizing the importance of using synonyms and antonyms to enhance
their writing and communication skills.
Written Work:
Directions: Write a synonym or antonym for each underlined word in the sentences below.
Review the concepts of synonyms and antonyms by asking students to share some of the words they
learned today.
Homework:
Write a sentence with each of the following words that illustrate the specific meaning of each synonym.
1. home, residence
2. quiet, peaceful
3. rude, impolite
4. mad, insane

METHODOLOGY
The prediction of the picture given on page 24 is that later, they will read the passage and answer the questions in the book.
Activity:
Talk to students about how quickly accidents can happen and how they can often be avoided.
Ask students what they understand about the term road safety. Is the term familiar to them?
Does their country celebrate a Road safety week?
Reading page 24:
Draw student's attention to the picture. Ask them to name specific things they see. Give them time to study it and make their
predictions.

Q: Why did the car driver pull out into the road?
Q2: which statement says the little boy was near the road?
Q3: Did the driver of the minibus know that the car was going to swerve? Why do you say that?
Rewrite the sentences using another word or phrase from the reading passage which is similar in
meaning to the word or phrase in bold type.

METHODOLOGY
After giving the recap of past simple students will be explained with the topic of past continuous with few examples. Late they will
do paae no. 35 of the book.
Activity:
Explain to students that verb tenses can do more than tell when an action happened; they can
also help you to understand the order in which the action happened.
Write on the board: We wrote the answer while our teacher was asking the questions.
The two verbs in this sentence are in two different tenses, the simple past (wrote) and the past
continuous(was asking)
The fact that both tenses are past tenses tells us that the action has already taken place.
We can also see that one action was completed (in the simple past) while the other action was
going on ( the past continuous)
One more example: because John finished first, he was watching television while everyone else was
doing chores.
Point out to students the first box on page 27 which explains how to form the past continuous.
