Infographic analysis

This infographic is presented to us in the context of cycling and its benefits to us. It has been published by Atlanta
bicycle coalition. It also tells how does replacing automobiles with cycles impact on preventing climate change. This
infographic is for the people of America, specifically those people who want to be in shape or are suffering from
health issues and Want a natural way to recover from fitness issues.it also involves office workers too. The
infographic might also be directed towards the youth to join the cycling group and lead a healthy life. The infographic
heavily uses text in the form of highlighted crisp bullet points on the benefits and visual data like pie charts and
pictograms to show how cycling is effective and a better alternative. The main purpose of this infographic is to
promote cycling as a better option for our health and sustainable for the environment. The situation of climate
change also helps to switch more people towards choosing cycles over automobiles and promoting better health.

The title "The benefits of cycling" is written in the colour green symbolizes 'nature', in the text it symbolizes how
cycling is eco-friendly and better for the environment along with a picture of a cyclist which is white in colour which
symbolises purity. Underneath the title we can see that cycling is the second most popular outdoor activity in the
United States. With also a visual representation of a badge. Just beside it we see a visual representation of a pie chart
which shows that 47% of Americans desire better cycling facilities in their communities creating the urge to improve
the bike facilities.

We also see that a visual and textual combination of a human body and labelled points for specific benefits for each
body part. For our brain cycling improves our mental health as cycling provides a relaxing effect due to stable
movement which stabilises our mental and physical health reducing the risk of anxiety, depression, etc. it also
improves our balance due to the exertion and relaxation of muscles. For the heart it reduces the risk of potential
heart attacks and increases our blood circulation. Cycling also improves our posture and reduces back problems. For
our lower body it improves our joints muscles and the coordination of the body. Overall it improves both our physcial
and mental health.

On the financial side of benefit cycling we have some too. In the infographic. The visual representation of a house
with money symbol show builders that cycling paths near societies increases the value of the house which profits
them. For an average person studies also show that 10 miles on a cycle save us $10 if we switch from automobiles.
Also for the daily working people it says that how cycles combats obesity as cycling to work makes you lose 13 lbs
which convinces even more people. The visual representation of a fat man figure along with weights of 1 lbs up to 13
is shown and the result of being slim is also shown. The visual representation of cash plays a role to convince people
to switch over. The infographic also says how on every car bought 3 times of it cycles are bought as it is a cheaper and
a eco-friendly alternative. To battle unemployment it is shown that cycle projects create more jobs for people
compared to highway projects.

In conclusion the creator Jonathan Harth has made a modernized and simplistic infographic which is well organized
and made easier to retain knowledge from it. With a wide range of audience encouraging them to switch to cycling.
The creator also added subtle yet impactful detail of adding the sources of information acting as evidence for the
claims for the benefits. The strategic use of design and language ensures that the message is not only communicated
effectively but also remembered by the viewer, making it a powerful tool in advocating for cycling within the
community.
