MOTIONS
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this investigation is to shed light on the motion (vertical and horizontal) of projectiles.
Otherwise known as Uniformly Accelerated Motion (UAM). Here, there are two types of ways for
projectiles to be launched and that determines their trajectory or path being taken. We also take into
account different external factors that may take action upon the said projectiles in order to fully
understand the concept of vertical and horizontal motions.
In this case, it would be considered as a combination of vertical and horizontal motions since in the first
phase of this motion, the plane accelerates on the runway in a straight horizontal line, and in the second
phase the plane ascends going up therefore a vertical motion. During takeoff, the plane will accelerate,
increase in velocity, get off the ground and continue to ascend until it reaches a certain height and
accelerate once again to reach their designated height.
Unlike other smaller projectiles whose trajectory can immediately be seen after being acted upon by an
external force, our case inlvoves airplanes that are designed to follow a specific route before landing back
on the ground. In addition there are also many other external factors which affect our case, for example,
air resistance, gravity, weather, and like mentioned before the specific route that each plane is designated to
follow and the assigned location to land.
In this investigation, we gather three points. Firstly, the concept of horizontal amd vertical motions is
present in the case of an airplane taking off from a runway. Wherein it could be considered as both
vertical and horizontal due to the acceleration of the plane and it finally taking off. Secondly, not all
projectiles will have a parabola as their trajectory due to different circumstances and factors like, air
resistance, friction, gravity and many more. Last but not least, in general we should acknowledge that
UAM can be found in any place and time.
