The I Ching
The Sequence of Change
The 64 Hexagrams
Arranged Around the Zodiac
In the Proper Order
Originally in the times of oral traditions, before words were written
down, the meaning of the hexagrams was determined to a great degree from the
sequence they were in. When words were added, the trigrams rearranged and the
hexagrams simply presented in pairs of opposites, something very significant
was lost. Perhaps, it was also around this same time that the Chinese calendar
became a numerological sequence, no longer connected to an accurate awareness
of the heavens.
The original system mutated to a numerological association. The correct
sequence was altered and for all practical purposes lost. For thousands of years
the earlier arrangement was minimized and the later arrangement encouraged.
This can be seen in many applications even today.
The only place in the universe where opposites are not opposite is in the
Later World Arrangement of the trigrams and subsequent works!
This work is an attempt to restore the correct sequence and give credit to
the original works of Fu Hsi. Attention is paid to the sequential changes in the
firm and the yielding, and in the light and the dark. Significant attention was also
placed on the balance between the Creative and the Receptive, rather than the
dominance of one over the other.
The mystical profundity of Chinese thought is rooted more in its simple
clarity than its perplexing contradictions. Many minds were directed away from
the natural simplicity of the changes when the original arrangement was altered
and the presentation of the hexagrams was taken out of its proper sequence.
In this work you will find an application of the correct and original se-
quence.

I Ching, Astrology and the Eightfold Path

Some Capricorn Considerations:

Capricorn is a Cardinal sign. They will work hard to accomplish some-

thing. It is the beginning of the year. Great effort and caution are needed
most at the beginning of things. This is a serious sign that will aspire to
put their plans in motion. They will have a strong sense of the obstacles
before them. They will exercise caution and restraint in their actions.
They are both assertive and defensive. They should not be underesti-
mated. They command respect.

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn.

The planet of self-discipline and responsibility.
This is the beginning of winter.
Life is dark and cold. It is a difficult time.
Nothing comes easily.
Hard work and disciplined effort are needed.
One must protect what one has and be patient about what one wants.
There will be times when one must do without!
Working hard and keeping complaints to oneself will win respect.

This is the trigram of the Arousing Force.

Out of darkness, light returns.
Out of great stillness, movement begins.
Out of great silence, a sound is heard.
Out of deep meditation, a thought arises.
Light, movement, sound and shock!
All are sources of stimulation and shock.

On the Eightfold Path this is the challenge of Right Speech.

For Right Speech one must abstain from telling lies.
One must also abstain from back-biting, slander
And talk that might bring about hatred, enmity
Or disunity among individuals or groups of people.
One must avoid language that is harsh, rude, malicious or abusive.
One must not indulge in idle, useless, foolish babble and gossip.

In the end he will return for her blessing
And help where he can.

ZODIAC CONSIDERATIONS (Pentans):

The darkest days of winter.

For three days, no apparent movement.
These days sit quietly in the darkness like three wise men.
On the fourth day one can see that the light is returning.
The vision within is seeded.
It must be nurtured before it is shared.
In the sixth line (on the sixth day)
One can sense the significance of the return
But must keep conclusions to oneself.

Some Aquarius Considerations:

Aquarius is a fixed sign.
Because it is a fixed sign, it is where cardinal and mutable energies
meet at 15º Aquarius.
The first half of Aquarius is cardinal or assertive and driving.
There is a tendency to make things happen and to set thoughts and
plans in motion.
The second half of Aquarius is mutable.
It is inclined to adapt and adjust rather than push forward.
Cardinal is assertive and mutable is perceptive.
Aquarius has one foot on cardinal ground and the other foot on muta-
ble ground. It is still winter and a cold time.
It will take preparation and forethought to achieve something.
It will take perception accompanied by adaptability to maintain it.
This is Aquarius: calculated action and insightful assessments of the
effects of action.
Selective deliberation and strategy prevail
And remain dependent on the quality of insight.

Aquarius is ruled by Saturn. It is winter and a cold barren time.

There is a tendency to be reserved and aloof.
There is a need to be respected for one’s ideas and knowledge.
One is inclined to idealize authority.
One strives to be well informed and responsible.
The first half of Aquarius is affected by Saturn which reinforces the
already reserved qualities.
The second half is affected by Jupiter bringing out a more adventur-
ous and speculative quality.

Aquarius is the place where two trigrams meet at 15º.

They are the Shocking Arousing Force and the Clinging Fire.
Thunder and lightning.
There is both a need for change and the clarity to perceive it,
As long as one does not cling to unworthy ideas.

Two paths meet in Aquarius.

They are Right Speech and Right Action.
One must be cautious about what one says
and honourable in what one does.

I Ching, Astrology and the Eightfold Path
Some Pisces Considerations:
Pisces is a Mutable sign.
This makes it perceptive and adaptable.
Opportunities for adventure arise.
There is much to perceive and much to manipulate.
One can easily get pulled into complications
Or be overwhelmed by expectations.
It will be difficult for you to live up to both your own and other peo-
ple’s expectations.
Life will often seem unfair and inconsiderate.
Strive for self-reliance. Increase faith.
Diminish guilt.

Pisces is ruled by Jupiter.

One’s understanding will condition one’s actions
And determine the results.
Hold to your moral principles and beliefs.
Kindness and compassion will lead to fulfillment.
Degeneration and corruption will have its appropriate consequences.
The challenge is to remain without blame.

This is the trigram of the Clinging Fire.

This is the light or last phase of Winter.
Light is increasing
But darkness maintains its dominance.
Freedoms are increasing
But responsibilities must be taken care of first.
This is a time of personal sacrifice.
One should cling to what is right
And avoid unworthy company.
To maintain personal clarity
One must let go of bad habits and personal dependencies.

This is the Eightfold Path of Right Action.

One is advised to maintain peaceful and honourable conduct.
Do not destroy life.
Do not steal. Avoid all dishonest dealings.
One should avoid improper sexual intercourse.
One should try to help others to maintain these same standards.
