Hunter-gatherers -> Agriculture -> Migration -> Characteristics of a complex society

Intro:

What did early humans need and how did they get it? By Karthik, Vin and Sophia.

Hunter gatherers were the first group of people to start history. Hunter-gatherers
were a group of people that relied on hunting and fishing for animals as a survival
strategy. To forage or hunt, people needed to find a sense of connection. To find a
sense of connection with others, hunter gatherers had to trade resources with others.
They also needed weapons, which the Hadza people used before.

Migration was also needed to travel to place to place. Hunter-gatherers have a lot of
reasons to migrate due to climate change and health. Before the common era, the
North was really cold, so they had to migrate to avoid frostbite and hunger. Usually,
hunter gatherers had to migrate close to the water to get more comfortable shelters
and more food.

The main transition that led to complex societie is agriculture. It contributed to food
surplus, which made the early humans develop complex societies. It also made
humans create tools, such as the plow. One historical example of agriculture is when
people in China grew millet and rice.

Complex Societies: job, culture, religion (definition example):

After hunter gatherers came the development of complex societies, which was a
huge upgrade of farming. Complex societies are societies that rely on food surpluses,
allowing humans to create jobs, social castes and religion. One example of a complex
society in Medieval France, which started in 840 AD.

Job specialization was one of the main aspects that made the economy of a complex
society. It was the division of labor amongst people’s skills. For instance, the Early
Indian society had jobs such as farmers, traders and builders as well. It was important
to make a proper livelihood for early humans.
