Operating systems:

Different operating systems are used to run different languages. Some of the operating systems are:

 Windows NT,2000(developed by Microsoft)

 Linux( user friendly and flexible)
 HP-UX
 Unix
 Sun Solaris

ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning):

ERP is a widely used to maintain the whole information about the company .It has different packages

 SAP
 Oracle Apps(Oracle applications)
 People Soft
 JD Edwards
 BAAN

On ERP two types of people work

 Functional: who are process oriented and gives specifications

 Technical: who does the coding

SAP:

It has occupied the major share of all the ERP packages .It has many modules covering all
the activities of the company some of the modules or functionaries of SAP are:

 Sales and Distribution (SD)

 Materials Management (MM)
 Finance (FICO)
 Human Resources (HR)
 Production Management (PM)
 Quality Management (QM)
 Business Information Warehousing (BIW)
 Plant Maintenance (PM)
 Project Systems (PS)
SAP programming language is ABAP4 the programmers who work with ABAP4 are called ABAP
programmers.

Oracle APPS:

Popularly used package but which has only few functionaries modules available from Oracle Apps are
as follows :

 Oracle Finance
 Oracle Manufacturing
 Oracle HRMS

Oracle Apps used for different applications in organization like:

 Customer Order Processing System(COPS)]

 Computer Aided Process Planning(CAPP)
 Production Planning and Control(PPC)
 Material Accounting System(MAS)
 Human Resource Management System(HRMS)
 Inventory Management System(IMS)
 Purchase Order System(POS)

The data base administrators who maintain Oracle Apps are called Oracle Apps DBA and the
programmers are called Apps Developers who are responsible for implementation and overall database
management.
The latest version of the Oracle Apps is 11i which is an ERP package had the functionaries like-
Financials (General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivables and other Fixed assets).

People Soft
Another ERP package which has few modules only and people who work on people soft are
People Soft DBA’s.
 People Soft HRMS
 Finance

JD Edwards
It has some modules of functionaries
 Finance
 Human Resource
 Manufacturing

The programmers are called as CNC programmers.

BAAN:

It is used by few companies and has limited modules

 Finance
 Manufacturing

CRM: (Customers Relationship Management)

The tools used for CRM
 Eiphiphony
 Siebel
 Vanture
 Oracle
 People soft
 Kawa
 Clarify

IBM Mainframes

The programming language is COBOL (common business oriented language) and the database is called DB2
the administrators who maintain database are called as DB2DBA

The technologies used are:

COBOL, DB2, CICS, MVS, JCL, VSAM, IMS, IDMS, Telon, ADABAS, REXX, ASSEMBLER.

REXX (Restructured Extended Executor language): It’s a procedural language that allows programs and
algorithms to be written in a clear and structured way.

All the applications done using these technologies are called Legacy applications.

System Administration and Security

The technologies used for administrating the system and providing security service to the system are as
follows:
