Pre Lesson 1. Teacher poses open-ended questions on the whiteboard:

2. Teacher skims the text and look for the answer (of the open-
ended questions).
3. Teacher explains to students that they do not need to read in
detail at this stage as they will have the opportunity to do so later.

4. Teacher writes down a keywords ‘impractical’ which is taken


form question 1. Teacher scans for similar word / synonym from
the text to identify the specific details.

5. Teacher encourage students to use the tips from the Download


box when doing the task and to be wary of negative words,
positive words such as 'always’ and other extreme words in the
answer options.

6. Teacher underlined reference words in the two paragraphs either


"anaphoric" (referring to a word or phrase mentioned earlier in the
sentences and "cataphoric" (referring to a word or phrase
mentioned later in the sentences),

Activity 1: Key sentence Identification

2. Students are required to use the context clues (anaphoric/
catahporic) to identify the suitable words for the definition
provided in Activity 5
