Case Study Definition
“What exactly is a case study?”

A case study critically assesses an event, a place,


personality, or situation to draw a conclusion. It
uses all background information to identify the
key problems and recommend further action.
A case study is an effective research method that
specifically studies a single case over a period of time.
Writing a case study is a very useful form of study in the
educational process.
ü Case studies are a type of research methodology.
They examine subjects, projects or organizations to
tell stories and try conclusions about them based
on evidence gathered during the process.

ü It allows you not only explore new avenues but


also get insight into what drives any subject’s
decisions and actions.

ü A case study focuses on a single project for an


extended period of time, which allows you to
explore the topic in depth.
How to Format Your Case Study?
Students usually feel overwhelmed
when it comes to turning the gathered
information into something interesting
and readable.

ü What is the best way to structure and
organize your case study?
These are the common questions
students mostly encounter when writing
a case study.
“What are the Parts of a Case Study?”
Title
Create an interesting title for your work. Keep it simple and short.

Subtitle
Here you need to briefly elaborate on the accomplishment. What you have done and
how you got there.

Executive Summary
Write about the entire story in one paragraph followed by 2-3 bullet points to display the
case study contents.
Subject Information
An introduction about what the case study is all about.

Challenges and Objectives


Describe the challenges of the subject/s. Explain the long-term goals
or objectives that the subject/s set out to achieve.

How Recommendation Helps


In this 2-3 paragraph section, describe how your specific
recommendations will provide a solution to their problem.

Results
In this 2-3 paragraph section, describe how your recommendations
will specifically benefit and help achieve the goals.
Quotes and Visuals
In the bottom section of your case study, add 1-2 quotes and visuals to support the
story you are telling. You can also use icons to summarize information and highlight
areas of your research. You can also combine these with social media icons to show
this is a well-researched and thorough case study.

Future Plans
Write about the future plans for your case study for improvement/development.

Call to Action
Call to action is optional but adding one will ensure sustainability of the situation
How to Write a Case Study?
After making a basic case study analysis, there are some specific steps that you need to
follow for writing a perfect case study. These are given below:

1. Introduction

Identify the key issue and write a solid thesis statement in 1-2 sentences. As with any other
paper, your case study introduction should serve as a roadmap for your readers.

Your introduction should not only identify the research problem and its significance. But
also discuss why this specific case is being written and how it relates to addressing the
problem.

A good introduction must answer the following questions:

What is being studied?


Why is the issue important to investigate?
How will this research advance new knowledge or ways of understanding?
2. Background Information

Incorporate relevant issues and facts and


conduct extensive research on the problem. This
is the point where you need to demonstrate how
well you have researched your problem.
3. Alternative Solutions
Highlight alternative solutions for the
problem to come up with the best
solutions. Don’t forget to briefly outline
the most viable solutions and evaluate
their advantages and disadvantages.
4. Main Answer
Always provide a realistic answer to the question asked in the
case. Explain the rationale for choosing the solution and justify it.
Explain why this solution is proved to be the best and support it
with solid evidence.

You can also utilize concepts from class discussions, lectures, and
text readings to help your view. Make sure you have
incorporated outside research and personal experiences if
necessary.
5. Recommendations
Locate specific strategies to accomplish the
solution. Suggest further actions and then outline
the implementation plan.

Here are the points that you need to focus on


when writing recommendations

Choose which of the alternative solutions should


be adopted.
Briefly write about your choice and explain how it
will solve the problem.
Integrate the theory and coursework here.
