C. Purpose
o Use one sentence to indicate what the investigation is trying to accomplish (i.e. the objective)
E. Observations – retype the chart, do not just add “refer to lab sheet”
o record all qualitative and quantitative data in table format (if possible)
o BE SURE TO GIVE A DESCRIPTIVE TITLE FOR YOUR TABLES, i.e. not Table 1 – Data for Step 4 ;
good = Table 1 – Nutrient Testing Results
F. Calculations
o provide any sample calculations required – BE SURE TO SHOW ALL WORK AND INCLUDE
APPROPRIATE UNITS
o can be neatly handwritten (i.e. if the rest of your lab report is typed)
G. *Analysis – THIS MAY HAVE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS DEPENDING ON THE LAB YOU CHOOSE
o graphs – be sure to include: DESCRIPTIVE TITLE, LABELLED AXES, A LEGEND
o explanation of your results (did your results follow expected/known results) – THIS WILL BE A
PARAGRAPH OF AN OVERALL DISCUSSION OF TRENDS IN YOUR RESULTS. You could include:
- calculate % error (comparison to a reference value)
- comparison to class data
*If the data is mostly qualitative or does not have a quantitative reference value, then be sure to
compare to patterns of observations that should be seen for that type of reaction/process
o answer any analysis questions (as directed)
o sources of error – that did occur or could have occurred. Use the format: Error, How Results Could
Have Been Affected, Suggestions for Improvement *AT LEAST 3!!!!!!
H. Conclusion
o statement(s) based on the evidence you have gathered in the investigation relating to your
purpose AND making sure you provide an answer for your purpose
o any further steps that may be needed
