Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 Distinguish the main function of Computer Keyboard
 Differentiate different parts of the Computer Keyboard
 Utilize the computer keyboard using a typing game
 Value the advancements of technology which the basis is
the different types of computer keyboard

The teacher will ask one student will lead the prayer.

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 Distinguish the main function of Computer Keyboard
 Differentiate different parts of the Computer Keyboard
 Utilize the computer keyboard using a typing game
 Value the advancements of technology supported by
different types of computer keyboard
E. Lesson Proper
1. Pre-Activity
Pre-Test:
The teacher will post a tarpapel on the board containing the unlabeled keyboard.
Direction: Enumerate all the parts of the Keyboard.

Whoever got lots of right answer will receive a prize after the lesson.
2. Activity Proper
A computer keyboard is the main input device that almost all computers
come with. It is used to enter instructions into the computer by pressing the
keys which then send the command to the processor. They can be used in all kinds
of devices that use different computer user interfaces from command, menu, and
Graphic User Interface (GUI).
The main function of a
keyboard is to key in data to the
computer/device. It acts as
a device input device for data
entry. The main types of
keyboard keys are functional,
alphanumeric, formatting,
special, and numeric among
many others.

Different parts of a computer keyboard
Computer keyboard works much like a mouse;many keyboard shortcuts can
eliminate the need for a mouse. Keys are split into different parts of the keyboard ,
each providing a specific function.

Function keys
Across the top of a keyboard are a row of keys called the function keys.Each
key is composed of the letter F and a number , ranging from F1 to F12 . Each of
the function keys performs a specific operation based upon what software is being
used.
Numeric Keys
Many larger keyboards have an extra section to the right that contains the
numeric keyboard.This consists of the numbers 1 through 9 an asterisk , a slash, a
plus sign, an enter key and a period . There also a "num lock " key Which is to
turn on and off the numeric keypad.
Navigation keys
The navigation keys ,also called the direction keys ,are used to navigate through
documents and websites . Examples of navigztion keys are the up ,down ,left and
right arrows.
Typewriter keys
The center of the keyboard , which contains the largest amount of keys , includes
letters and numbers . Most typing is done with these keys.
Special Keys
Other keys includes the Alt and Ctrl keys (Used for specific functions), The tab
key is used to iset the curser and the shift key is used to make capital letters or
symbols that are located on the number keys .
Escape
The Escape key is located in the upper left hand corner of the keyboard. it is
used to cancel operation
Types computer keyboards
Categorized in terms of technology keyboards are classified into 2.
The mechanical is the oldest type of computer keyboard and it is the one discussed
earlier on how it operates. The other is the virtual keyboard which allows the user
to convert any flat non-reflective surface into a typing area.
Virtual Keyboard
As the word virtual suggests the keyboard is “not real” in the sense that where you
are pressing the keys it is not a physical
keyboard like one on a laptop or a desktop. The
above gadget project a full QWERTY keyboard.
It is only suitable on a flat non-reflective where
the user can be able to press the virtual keys
projected. The device has an infrared light diode
at the bottom which produces a light parallel to
the surface.

Other types of computer keyboards include:


 Wireless keyboards: this is a keyboard that doesn’t need a cable connector
to link to the computer.

 Ergonomic keyboards: they are designed in such a way as to reduce body


strain when typing.
 Backlit keyboards: mostly used in laptops and they display light under the
keys. They can be used when in a low-light room.

 Gaming keyboards: they are designed for gaming, and they respond to
keystrokes faster than other types of computer keyboards

 Flexible keyboard: they are mostly connected using USB and they can be
folded. They are easy to move with

 Multimedia keyboards: they are normal keyboards but with extra buttons
to control media such as video. They have a volume control, pause, end, next
button, etc.
3. Post Activity
Post-Test:
Direction: Enumerate all the parts of the Keyboard.

Observe if the students learn on the discussion, comparing their scores on the pre-
test and post-test.
Give prize on the student/s who has the highest score.
4. Application
Hands – on Activity: Practice your Typing and Familiarizing on keyboard
Instruction:
 Connect your laptop or computer to the internet
 Search Typing Attack in Google or Chrome
 Using the website Typing Attack, accumulate points on allotted time (10
minutes). Whoever has the highest points wins the game and will receive a
prize.
5. Generalization
Answer the question below comprehensively and honestly:
Base on different variety of keyboard and the creative minds who invent them, how
will give your full appreciation on the technology as a tool for human innovation
and world globalization?
Sharing:
Let the students share what they recognized and learn throughout the discussion
and activities.
