This course will enable students to:
• Define remote sensing, photogrammetry, satellite imaging, GIS, and CAD
• Explain GPS, DGPS, laser profilers, EDM, and Total Station.

UNIT 1: Remote sensing
Remote sensing, Photogrammetry, satellite imaging, GIS application to mining,

UNIT 2: Advances in Surveying Instrumentation


GPS & DGPS, Principle, operation, application to mine survey and face monitoring.
Laser profilers, EDM, Total Station, principle, techniques and application in mines.
UNIT 3: Underground Surveying
Methods of correlation - direct traversing in inclined shaft, correlation in vertical,
single and two shafts. Gyro- theodolite & its application.
Stope Surveying: Purpose, methods of survey in moderately and steeply inclined ore
Course bodies, flat and vertical ore bodies/seams.

UNIT 4: Opencast surveying


Slope monitoring survey, Bench & Ramp Layout survey, Joint boundary survey,
Problems based on Dip-Strike, boreholes, faults, Area and Volume calculations.

Map Projections; Cassini, Lambert's Polyconic, UTM, transformation of
coordinates.
Geodesy: Geoid, spheroid and ellipsoid, geocentric, geodetic and astronomical

collection based on the topic of training assigned to them.
2. The students will be given specific assignments for the period of training.
3. During the course of training students will complete weekly report, assignments and
keep weekly attendance updated.

presentation before the group of students. Teacher assessment will be done during the
training, on presentation of training and at the end of semester examination.
5. A seminar will be organized on specific topics identified by the teacher and the
