PHYSICS - Soved Exam
INSTRUCTIONS
1. This paper consist of section A, B and C with total of ten (10) questions
2. Answer all questions
3. Section A carries 15 marks, section B 70marks and section C caries 15 marks
4. Where necessary the following constants may be used

Acceleration due to gravity, g =10
1 1000
Density of water = 3
 3
Pie, = 3.14
6. (a) Label the parts F,B,N,E,L C,T,R,A,B by giving roman number respectively
7. Study the diagram below then answer the question that follows
(b) Explain why a rotating wonder wheel becomes hot after a sudden stop.
(c) How much power is required for a car 1000kg in charging speed from
10m/s to 40m/s in 8s?
9. Pilato is a form one student at Pugu Secondary, the physics teacher has
instructed him to cut a piece of soap by using two wires varying in thickness.
Pilato at first used very thin wire to cut a bar of soap into half. What is the
difference when a bar of soap is cut using a thin wire and when a thick wire?
SECTION C (Marks 15)
Anwer question number ten (10)
10. The hydrometer shown below is used to measure the densities of liquids
between 1g/cm3 and 0.08g/cm3. Assume that density of water = 1g/cm3, the
cross-section area of the stem is 0.5cm2 and the height of the stem above the
liquid level is 16cm. Determine the volume of the hydrometer below mark 1.0

3 (i) Do not touch the victim who is still in contact with electric current.
(ii) Break the contact by switching off the current at the switch or the main
switch if it can be reached easily
(iii) If it is possible to switch off the current, move the person from his or her
position by using a non-conductor materials, for instance a piece of dry wooden
plank or broom.
(iv) If you suspect that area has high voltage, call for professional help
immediately
(v) If the victim is un conscious, check the breathing and pulse rate, if he or she
has breathing problems, try to revive his or her breathing rate to normal.
(v) Administer first aid for shock, burns or other injuries sustained by the victim
4 (i) The study of physics enables a person to answer questions about physical
properties of matter.
(b) The devices used to study weather in geography are made of the
application of physics e.g. Wind vane, Anemometer, Rain gauge etc
(b) Solution
Start by drawing main scale showing reading close to 6.5mm (i.e not touching
the 6.5mm mark) then draw the thimble to show reading of 0.49 mm.
B 5 marks
8 (a) For the work to be done, the body should move through a certain distance
since work is the of force and distance moved in the direction of force.
1 1
= 2 × 1000 × (40/)2 − 2
× 1000(10/)2
= 750000J
750000
= 8
= 93750.
Car engines are often rated in horsepower (hp) where 1 hp=746 watts.
= 125.67hp
9. The difference when a bar of soap is cut using a thin wire and when using
thick wire is that, it was easier to cut a bar of soap when he used a thin piece of
wire than a thick one. This shows that the smaller the surface area it exerts
greater pressure.
= 16cm x 0.5cm3
=8cm3
So, V3 = V1 + V2 = (V1+8)cm3
That is
 × 1 ×  =  × 3 ×
Thus,
 × 3
1 =
=
× (1 + 8)
0.8
V1= × (1 + 8)
1.0
V1=0.8V1+6.4
0.2V1=6.4
V1=32cm3
