Individual Assignment Specifications V11
Scenario: As a pre-interview employment test for the position of a project manager, you have been
asked to create a report for your chosen IT project from a selection of 50 different projects. The report
should address the following six tasks. Your answer should be original and created by you. Plagiarism
will be heavily penalized and reported to the University for disciplinary action.
Here's a list of 50 IT projects to choose from (The lecturer will assign one project to each
student):
Task 1)
Business Case Questions (1-1.5 pages, 7.5 mark):
The project sponsor asks you the following questions about the business case for the project:
a) Explain what a business case is, when (at which phase), and why it is produced.
b) List at least 10 items that you are going to include in your business case.
c) What does success look like for this project? Provide at least 5 success measures.
Task 2)
Principles of project management (1 page, 7.5 mark):
Address the eighth principle of project management in PMBOK 7, "Build Quality into Processes and
Deliverables":
a) Define and explain this principle.
b) Elaborate on what this principle implies for the context of your project and how you will apply it.
c) Provide 2 examples of the processes and 2 examples of the deliverables into which you plan to
build quality in your project.
Task 3)
Project management knowledge areas (half a page, 5 mark):
a) Explain what Procurement Management means for the context of your project.
b) Provide 5 examples of items your project needs to procure.
Task 4)
Dealing with stakeholders and project situations (1 page, 5 mark):
In a project management team, two project planners, Jo and Javad, find themselves in a competitive
situation where each believes their approach is the best, leading to disagreements and arguments in
recent meetings. Both are trying to be seen as the primary decision-makers and leaders, resulting in
tension and conflicting ideas. Answer the following questions about this scenario:
a) Provide insights and suggestions for managing such situations effectively.
b) Outline a strategy to address the competitive behavior, promote open communication, and ensure
both project planners' ideas are heard and considered constructively.
Task 5)
Organizational Zoo Model (1 page, 7.5 mark):
a) Introduce the Organizational Zoo model to understand behaviors in organizations. Present 5
animals of the model and compare their characteristics.
b) Explain which animal would define the character you would like to have in your chosen project and
why.
Please select one IT project from the provided list and address all the above tasks in your report. Note
each project can only be allocated to one student in one class. Lecturer should approve your project in
advance. The report should be comprehensive, demonstrating your project management skills and
understanding of project principles.

All page limits are set with font size 11 (Times New Roman) and single spacing, using 2.54cm
margins on all sides.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
The assessor’s evaluation for this assignment generally follows the submission requirements as noted
above. The evaluation will be conducted in accordance with the separate Marking Rubric for this
assignment which details the evaluation criteria and weightings (available marks).
DEADLINE:
Assignment should be uploaded on the relevant dropbox by 8 am before your class in week 7.
Assignments should include a coversheet signed and filled by the students. Each assignment will be
checked for plagiarism. Students have access to check their assignment originality before submission.
