Growing up in a small village in Jharkhand, my earliest memories were infused with discussions

about the Government and its decisions (Sarkar Ne Ye Nirnay Lia Sarkar Ne Ye Yojna Laagu Ki). As a
child, I was intrigued by the concept of governance, questioning what the Government is, its
functions, and the impact of its decisions on us. As I matured, my understanding of these institutions
developed through formal education and various sources around me. Essential functions such as the
legislative process and parliamentary functioning were imparted by school and other educational
institutions, reinforcing my responsibility as a citizen to comprehend these aspects. However, my
true interest unfolded during my undergraduate years, where I delved into the rationale behind laws
and public policies. It was during this time that I learned about the Legislative Assistants to Members
of Parliament (LAMP) fellowship from a senior in college. Researching the fellowship, I discovered it
to be a distinctive opportunity for fellows to actively engage in the nation's supreme law-making
authority. The fellowship not only provides a deep understanding of the nitty-gritty of legislations
but also elucidates how laws can be constitutionally progressive, economically viable, socially
acceptable, and environmentally friendly through interactions with individuals who came from
diverse educational backgrounds. In a Nation governed by elected representatives, working
alongside these representatives offers a firsthand perspective on the vision driving legislative
decisions and the ways in which they strive to meet the demands of their constituents and for the
nation as a whole. The LAMP fellowship, I believe, will serve as a crucial stepping stone in my career
trajectory. At the age of 23, the fellowship presents an unparalleled chance for young minds like
mine to contribute at the parliamentary level and collaborate with MPs engaged in the challenging
task of creating public policies for the Nation like ours with the amount of diversity stated by poet
Bhartendu Harishchand – “Kos Kos par Badle Pani, Chaar Kos Par Waani”. This immersive experience
will not only enhance my understanding of public policy nuances but also provide insights into the
research methodologies integral to lawmaking. The fellowship promises a multidimensional
approach to policymaking, a valuable lesson that will contribute significantly to my professional
growth. Throughout my academic journey, I have harboured a keen interest in comprehending the
dynamics of lawmaking. This fellowship aligns seamlessly with my aspirations, offering a unique
opportunity to engage with the nuances of policymaking and contribute meaningfully to the process.
Contemplating how my education can be harnessed for societal benefit has always been a driving
force for me. I am confident that I can fulfil the core requirements of the fellowship and adapt to the
responsibilities entrusted to me. Leveraging my diverse skill set, cognitive thinking, and an innate
curiosity to unravel the 'why, what, and how' of various perspectives, I am eager to embark on this
transformative journey. As the fellowship unfolds, I am committed to maximizing my potential and
actively contributing to the legislative processes that shape our nation.
