MLP Triangles
MLP Triangles
Similar Triangles:- Two triangles are said to be similar, if (a) their corresponding
angles are equal and (b) their corresponding sides are in proportion (or are in the same
ration).
Basic proportionality Theorem [ or Thales theorem ].
If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle and it intersects the other two sides
in two distinctpoints then it divides the two sides in the same ratio.
Converse of Basic proportionality Theorem.
If a line divides any two sides of a triangle in the same ratio, the line must be parallel
to the third side.
Criteria for similarity of Triangles.
AA or AAA similarity criterion.
SAS similarity criterion.
SSS similarity criterion.

1. ΔABC is such that AB = 3 cm, BC = 2 cm and CA = 2.5 cm. If ΔDEF ~ ΔABC
and EF =4 cm, then perimeter of ΔDEF is :
(a)15 cm (b) 22.5 cm (c) 7.5 cm (d) 30 cm
2. ΔABC and ΔPQR are similar triangles such that ∠A = 32° and ∠R = 65°, then
∠B is :
(a) 83° (b) 32° (c) 65° (d) 97°
3. D and E are respectively the points on the sides AB and AC of a triangle ABC
such thatAD = 2 cm, BD = 4 cm, BC = 9 cm and DE || BC. Then, length of DE
(in cm) is :
(a)6 (b) 5 (c) 3 (d) 2.5
4.If the ratio of the corresponding sides of two similar triangles is 2 : 3, then the ratio
of their corresponding altitude is :
(a)3 : 2 (b) 16 : 81 (c) 4 : 9 (d) 2 : 3
3. ABCD is a parallelogram. Point P divides AB in the ratio 2:3 and point Q divides
DC in the ratio 4:1. Prove that OC is half of OA.
