Workshop Safety Awareness

What is workplace safety?

Workplace safety may be a composite field associated with safety, health and welfare of individuals at
work. It narrates the strategy and methods in situ to make sure health and safety of employees within a
workplace. Workplace safety includes employee awareness associated with the knowledge of basic
safety, workplace hazards, and risks referring to hazards, implementation of hazard preventions, and
putting into practice necessary safer methods, techniques, process, and safety culture within the
workplace.

It also includes safety rules and regulations designed mostly on the basis of existing government policies.
Every organization puts in situ variety of safety rules and regulations for its people. Safety training and
education for workers is imparted periodically with a view to creating them aware of and updating them
with latest safety measures.

Safety signs.

Workplace safety, which are important to keeping people safe on the job. Safety signs play a key role,
though, in many aspects of safety from notifying people of tripping hazards and PPE requirements to
explaining arc flash and chemical hazards. These signs must be easy to read, and in many cases, comply
with OSHA standards for safety signs.

1
Below you’ll find a variety of types of safety signs

Name of the sign Safety sign workshop activities

1. Wear hand Hand protection safety signs, a visual reminder of

protection the need to use personal protective equipment
(PPE) in the workplace. These are necessary to
protect against a range of potential hazards to
hands and fingers, to protect against hazards like
extreme temperatures, cuts and punctures,
impacts, contact with chemicals, electric shocks,
skin infections, disease or contamination.
Common applications for these hand protection
signs include construction, building, chemical,
pharmaceutical, agriculture, forestry, automotive,
manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, electronics,
food processing, catering, laboratories.

2. Oxidizing These chemical hazard signs are ideal for

symbol laboratories, hospitals, and any other
environment in which potentially dangerous
substances are used and/or stored. Oxidizers are
chemicals that facilitate burning or make fires
burn hotter and longer.

3. Defibrillator Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) have

hazard become important first aid tools within the
workplace. These life-saving devices can help
people experiencing cardiac arrest by restoring a
normal heart rhythm.

2
4. Warning No Safety shoes are required where serious injury to
bear feet the foot may result from an employee's daily job.
allowed Foot injuries may occur in areas where there are
rolling or falling objects, objects piercing the sole,
or where feet are exposed to electrical hazards,
such as a static-discharge or electric-shock
hazard, that remains after the employer takes
other necessary protective measures.

5. Slippery floor Indicates potential risks and dangers in the

safety sign workplace from slipping on floor surfaces. The
majority of workplace injuries are caused by slips,
trips and falls. It is crucial for employers to do all
they can to prevent slips and falls.

6. Wear Respiratory protection signs are a visual reminder

respirator of the need to use breathing PPE in the
workplace. These are necessary to protect against
airborne dust particles, including asbestos, gas or
fumes, vapor, and oxygen deficient atmospheres.
Common applications include industrial
sandblasting, grinding or spraying, clearing of
spillages, pressure washing, welding, metal
manufacture and fabrication, general
construction and DIY, demolition.

7. Do not use To warn of the dangers to workers from falling off

this scaffolding structures, which have not been fully
incomplete erected, or which is unstable. This sign is mostly
scaffold. used in construction areas.

3
8. Emergency To identify the cut off control to immediately
stop sign stop equipment or machinery operating. A range
of mandatory safety signs for utility services
including supply of water, electricity and gas.
These signs identify the placement of shut off
valves or circuit boxes for every service, and
action to be taken in the event of a gas leak.
These safety signs are a part of safe shut-off
procedures for gas services, water system, at
their respective valves, or electric supply at the
circuit panel. These signs assist both the utilities
service provider, maintenance or repair
companies and industrial, commercial and retail
users, in locating essential equipment to for
forestall personal injury or damage to property.

9. Do not oil To prevent workplace injuries from cleaning,

this machine oiling, lubricating or greasing machines, which are
while in in active use. This sign can be seen in heavy
motion machinery areas.

10. No access for No entry signs are used to restrict entering that
unauthorized area. These can limit access to areas housing
persons dangerous machinery or lifts, or identify hazard
areas for X-ray, biological, demolition or asbestos
risks. Some access may be restricted to those
using the necessary personal protective
equipment, protective clothing or permits to
work or clean room requirements.

4
11. Finger trap To inform the risk of trapping your finger or hand
hazard inside a machine or something. It reminds you
work safely with the machinery.

12. Wear ear Ear protection safety sign is a reminder of the

protection need to use the hearing PPE in the workplace. Ear
protection equipment can protect against
hazards like excessive noise, intrusion of water,
excessive wind, dust particles, or foreign bodies.
There’re few different types of ear protection
equipment, those are ear defenders, earplugs,
earmuffs or headphones.

13. Risk of To advise workers of the risks associated with a

overhead variety of cranes, hoists and monorails from
load sign being struck by falling loads, or being trapped
between the load and the building structure.
These include mind your head signs to spot
overhead beams or pipework, projecting sharp
objects or corners at head height, protruding
ductwork, low ceilings and restricted entrance
access. Additionally, there are outdoor head
accident risks involving trees, power lines, and
structural frameworks, scaffolding, and dealing
beneath bridges and in road and rail tunnels.

5
14. Emergency You can see these signs in most buildings.it is very
eye wash recognizable. This helps to identify eye bath
station equipment for the treatment of optical injuries.
An eyewash station is a unit for washing
chemicals or substances which may splash into an
individual's eyes before he or she will be able to
seek further medical attention. The user needs to
wash their eyes for a minimum of 15 minutes.

Vehicle lifters

Introduction

Car lifts have long been one of the most important investments a professional automotive shop or
garage can make. With the recent unexpected boost in automotive business, consumers are even more
likely to repair and service their vehicles instead of purchase a brand new one. It's been important for
auto body shops, quick lube stations, car dealerships and car rental businesses to have the most reliable
car lifting equipment to suit the needs of their customers.

Increasingly, car lifts are also becoming a more popular choice among dedicated hobbyists who prefer to
maintain their own vehicles, as well as families looking to make the most out of their limited parking
space. The efficiency, speed, safety and convenience a high-quality car lift provides is now an affordable
option for the home user.

1. Vehicle lifter models

a. Mobile columns

These lifts that are interconnected. They’re wireless. You can move them everywhere. These can
easily move by a one person. They have the ability to lift incredible weights. Some lifters can lift up
to 33000 kg to 72600 kg. the amazing thing is these are all connected wirelessly. It uses two deep
cycle batteries some uses more and that provide about 35 lifting cycles. It only needs to charge
once every week or two, it only takes about six seven hours to charge. This lifters can lift buses,
dump, trucks fire trucks, semi-trucks and any other heavy vehicles. You can work with these
indoors and outdoors. With the push of a single button on any column, all connected lifts rise
simultaneously, providing an even, equalized elevation for all heavy-duty vehicle types.

8
b. Two post lifters

Two-post car lifts are the most common type of frame-engaging auto lifts that likely to find in a
professional automotive shop. With two incredibly sturdy posts and supportive stabilization arms, two-
post car lifts are capable of holding a large vehicles at a height that’s comfortable for the automotive
technician. However, the best reasons to own a two-post car lift are the reduced price compared to
four-post car lifting options, the small horizontal footprint for space saving convenience and the
complete access to the wheels. Two-post auto lifts are either considered symmetrical or asymmetrical.
Symmetrical automobile lifts are easy to identify because the posts face each other dead-on, and the
support arm assemblies each hold approximately 50% of the load. Asymmetrical automotive lifts, on the
other hand, feature swing arms that are not the same length in the front and back, as well as a rotated
post design. The result of these two features is a shifted center of gravity and better clearance for
vehicle doors, giving the operator direct access to the automobile interior even when the car or truck is
raised. Both asymmetrical and symmetrical two-post garage lifts work fine with lighter vehicles, so the
distinctions are mostly moot unless you are going to specialize in heavier, unbalanced vehicles. Two-post
car lift are not very common in residential garages because they are much taller than other automotive
lifting options, require more attention to detail to reach designated vehicle lifting points and don’t grant
the vehicle stacking convenience found on four-post garage lifts. In most cases, a two-post car or truck
lift is most beneficial to garages that see cars and trucks going up and down all day long.

9
c. Four post lifters

Four-post car lifts are mainly suspension lifts that rely on their columns to contain the lifting structure
cables or chains, while simultaneously bearing the load equally between them. Since the four-post car
lift is not a rigid structure, it was once common for lifts to sway slightly during raising or lowering
operations. Anti-sway blocks are one method of minimizing sway and maintaining proper spacing. This is
especially important to ensure that safety locks are always engaged and that each post or column is
holding 1/4 of the overall weight.

10
d. In ground scissor lifters

Depending on the configuration of the hydraulic cylinders and raising rods, a scissor lift can be described
as “X” type, parallelogram type or pantograph type. Scissor auto lifts have a very wide range of
capacities and heights to benefit both professional shops and home hobbyists. Low-rise car lifts raise up
to 36-inches above the ground, mid-rise auto lifts raise between 36 inches and 48 inches and full-rise
scissor lifts can go anywhere above that. When not in use, scissor style car lifts retract into a low profile.

11
e. Piston type lifters

Lifts with their lifting assemblies installed below the garage floor are known as in ground lifts. Most
modern manufacturers of in ground lifts have developed systems to contain all of the hydraulic
components within an enclosure. This reduces the risk of soil contamination from hydraulic leaks. These
lifts employ one or more hydraulic pistons or scissors mechanisms depending on the type of vehicle and
how much weight is to be lifted. Light-duty lifts use one or two pistons. Heavy-duty unground lifts
feature two to three pistons or scissors mechanisms. Different unground lifts are manufactured to suit
almost any type of repair or maintenance service on virtually any vehicle.

2. The safety measures and daily maintenance checks to be carried out when
operating vehicle lifts

Now that you’ve invested in one or more two post or four post auto lifters for your vehicle workshop,
you want to keep them in top working order for the long term. By adhering to this simple car lift service
plan, you can keep your lifts working safely and effectively.

Daily car lift maintenance

 Every morning, you should carefully inspect all your vehicle lifters moving parts, cables, and
hoses for faults or any signs of unusual wear and tear.
 Wipe off any dirt or unwanted grease, both to keep your car lift clean and to make the visual
inspection more accurate and easier to perform.
 Check that all locking mechanisms and safety features are working properly before trying to lift
any vehicle.
 Repair or replace any damaged parts immediately.

Weekly car lift maintenance

 Lubricate all pulleys, rollers, chains, and safety lock pivot points to ensure the smooth operation
of your lift and preventing from rust.
 Inspect all nuts, bolts, cables, and pins to ensure they’re intact and properly mounted. Tighten
any loose components as necessary.

Monthly car lift maintenance

 Check the lifts columns to ensure they are still squarely and securely anchored to the workshop
floor. Tighten any anchor bolts that have worked loose and if you notice a more serious
problem, call a licensed service technician.
 Give your entire car lift a thorough cleaning, to keep it looking good and to expose any potential
problem areas.
