At UC San Diego, you have a variety of advisors to help you navigate


our system.

Warren College Academic Advisors


Available to advise students on quarter planning, scheduling, graduation requirements,
and connect students with resources inside and outside of Warren College. Warren College
academic advisors also conduct workshops/webinars to provide guidance on a variety of
topics, such as long term planning and remote learning resources. They will help you better
understand what is required of you so you are successful at Warren College and at UC San
Diego.

Department Advisors
Located in each academic department and assist in planning major and minor specific
coursework. A large portion of your graduation requirements are in your major. Your major
advisors will help you understand your major requirements and show you how the courses
you have already taken may satisfy major requirements here at UC San Diego.

Career Advisors
Located in the Career Center off of Library Walk. They assist students with career
exploration, graduate and professional school advising, offer career assessments, job fairs,
and many other resources to get students connected and to prepare them for life after UC
San Diego.

Internship Advisors
Located in the Academic Internship Program (AIP) office. AIP provides students with a
variety of internship opportunities across many different career fields. Internships through
AIP are taken for academic credit usually in your 3rd or 4th year.

International Advisors
Available to help international students become familiar with UC San Diego and can
answer any questions about your visa or immigration status.

Zoom Drop-Ins
We will be offering virtual ‘drop-in’ one-on-one advising sessions. Please see the schedule for
drop-in advising hours via zoom. You can access our drop-in remote sign-on through the “Meet
with an Advisor” tab in the VAC. *** Incoming students gain access to Zoom drop-ins once they
enroll in their first class***

In Person Drop-Ins
We will be offering in-person drop-ins when Fall quarter begins. Our In Person Drop-In remote
sign-in is located at the front lobby computer in CSE (EBU3B). *** Incoming students gain
access to in-person drop-ins once they enroll in their first class***

WARREN COLLEGE GE’S

Warren College Requirements

Every Warren College student must fulfill four sets of GE course requirements that the
college motto, Toward a Life in Balance, is integrated to encourage exposure to fields outside
of your major discipline and to ensure depth and breadth of study.

Warren Writing Ethics and Society

A two-course sequence: Warren College Completion of WCWP 10A and 10B is required
Writing Program (WCWP) 10A and 10B to enroll in PHIL 27 or POLI 27 and PHIL 28 or
POLI 28.

WARREN COLLEGE GE’S
All majors except B.S. Engineering majors must complete two Programs of
Concentrations (PofCs); B.S. Engineering majors must complete two Area Studies.

Programs of Concentration (PofCs)/Area Studies

PofCs/Area Studies must be non-contiguous (unrelated) to each other and to the major.

AP/IB credit may apply, as well as completed, transferrable community college


coursework. AP/IB and community college coursework may only satisfy lower division
requirements.

UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS

All UC San Diego students must complete the following University of California
requirements:

UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR)

The University of California requires all undergraduate students to demonstrate a minimum


proficiency in English composition.

This requirement is fulfilled with an appropriate score on one of the following:


Score of 680 or higher on the SAT, Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing
Score 3 or higher on AP Exam in English Language or English Literature
Score of 5 or highter on ACT Combined English/Writing test (Language A only)
Score of or higher on IB Standard or Higher Level Exam in English (Language A only)
Approved community college course
Writing Placement Process (WPP)

An official transcript of exam scores and/or college courses must be on file with the UC San
Diego Office of Admissions. You must complete ELWR prior to enrolling in the Warren College
Writing Program (WCWP 10A)

If you have not satisfied ELWR and your WPP score places you into:
AWP 3 (Analytical Writing): you must enroll in Fall Quarter
AWP 4A (Analytical Writing and Academic English): you must enroll in either Fall or Winter
Quarter

You must complete ELWR within your first year at UC San Diego.

UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS
University Requirements
All UC San Diego students must complete the following UC requirements:

American History and Institutions (AHI)

All UC students must satisfy knowledge of American history and the principles of American
institutions under the federal and state constitutions.

This requirement is met by:


A grade of C or better in an approved high school course in American history and/or
American government
A score of 3 or higher on the Advanced Placement (AP) U.S. History exam
A passing mark in an approved UC San Diego course or approved transfer course

If you are on an F-1 or J-1 student visa at the time of graduation, you will be able to waive the
AHI requirement

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

A knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion is required of all UC San Diego undergraduate
students.

This requirement is satisfied with a grade of at least C- or Pass (P) in one course on the UC San
Diego-approved DEI list.

Climate Change Education Requirement (CCER)

The establishment of this new graduation requirement for incoming first-year students,
beginning Fall 2024, is designed to empower our students with the knowledge and skills needed
to confront the urgent global challenge of climate change. A list of approved coursework is
forthcoming.

The DEI/CCER course may overlap with any upper division or


lower division major, minor, or general education course.
