TITLE : CROP MONITORING AND PEST
MANAGEMENT USING IOT

PROBLEM DEFINITION
Environmentally friendly technologies for the prevention and control of crop
diseases and insect pests are important to reduce the use of chemical pesticides,
improve the quality of agricultural products, protect the environment, and promote
sustainable development of crop production. On the basis of Internet of Things
(IoT) technology, we developed a prevention and control system for crop diseases
and insect pests with two main components: a plant protection device (the
hardware) and an information management system (the software).
IOT (INTERNET OF THINGS) for crop monitoring and pest management
leverages smart technologies to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability
CROP MONITORING: IoT sensors can track various parameters like soil
moisture, temperature, and nutrient levels. Data collected helps farmers make
informed decisions about irrigation, fertilization, and crop health, leading to
optimized growth conditions and increased yield.
PEST MANAGEMENT: IoT devices such as cameras and sensors can detect
pests and diseases in real-time. This allows for timely intervention and targeted
treatments, reducing the need for widespread pesticide use and minimizing crop
damage.
TARGET AUDIENCE
 Farmers and Agricultural Producers: Primary users who seek to enhance crop
yield, optimize resource use, and manage pests more effectively.
 Agricultural Extension Officers: Professionals who provide support and
guidance to farmers, helping them adopt new technologies and improve their
practices.
 Agribusiness Companies: Organizations involved in the production and
distribution of agricultural inputs (e.g., seeds, fertilizers, pesticides) and
services.

 Agricultural Researchers and Scientists: Individuals focused on developing

new technologies, conducting studies, and improving farming practices.

 Government and Policy Makers: Authorities responsible for setting

agricultural policies and regulations, and who may use data to inform policy
decisions.

 Investors and Venture Capitalists: Entities interested in funding innovative

agricultural technologies and solutions.

 Environmental Organizations: Groups focused on sustainable farming

practices and reducing the environmental impact of agriculture. These
audiences benefit from IoT-driven crop monitoring and pest management
solutions as they address various aspects of agricultural efficiency,
sustainability, and productivity.

GOALS FOR CROP MONITORING AND PEST

MANAGEMENT
1. Increase Crop Yields: Optimize crop growth and reduce losses due to pests and
diseases.
2. Reduce Pesticide Use: Implement targeted and efficient pest control measures.
3. Enhance Decision-Making: Provide farmers with real-time data and actionable
insights.
4. Promote Sustainable Agriculture: Support environmentally friendly practices and
reduce the ecological footprint of farming.
