DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Region VII

FARAON NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Faraon, Jagna, Bohol
I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Define series and parallel circuit;
b. Differentiate series from parallel circuit; and
c. Install series and parallel circuits in a wiring board.
II. Subject Matter:
Topic : Types of Electrical Circuits (Series and Parallel)
Code : TLE_IAEI10/8UT-0a1-3
Time Allotment: 45 Minutes
Materials : Bulbs, Wire, Battery, Switch, Receptacles, Extension wire, and PPT

III. Procedures
A. Introductory Activities
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance

B. Motivation : Show different pictures portraying a series connection (series lights) and parallel
connection (household appliances). The pictures below show common circuit connection at home.
Describe how these appliances and light bulbs are connected at home.

C. Presentation of the Lesson

 Locate the switches installed in the workshop/classroom, let the students determine why are there
switches which can control 1 to 2 bulbs at a time, and let them compare the lighting each bulb
produces.
D. Discussion of the Lesson
 Discuss the components of each circuit.
 Compare and contrast the principles and advantages of each circuit.
 Demonstrate the proper installation of series and parallel circuit.
E. Generalization
Call the students to answer the following questions:
 What is a series circuit? A parallel circuit?
 How does series circuit different from a parallel circuit in terms of connections, advantages, and
disadvantages?
F. Application
 Group the students into three as they will perform the installation of series and parallel circuit.
Materials will be provided; given that the tool are to be brought by the students themselves to
avoid borrowing thus making work fast and clean.
IV. Evaluation

A. Write True if the statement is true and false it is incorrect.

______1. In a series circuit, if one light bulb does not function all other light bulbs will still function.
______2. In a parallel circuit, not all light bulbs do not have the same brightness in the circuit.
______3. In a parallel circuit, loads are easy to control individually
______4. A parallel circuit is easy to install.
______5. Series circuits do not overheat easily.
______6. Adding more loads in parallel circuit may overload the circuit.
______7. Every load in a parallel circuit has the same voltage.
______8. The parallel circuit is difficult to install and repair due to the volume of conducting wires required in
the connection.
______9. In a series circuit, loads are difficult to control individually.
______10. Voltage across the parallel circuit, are all equally distributed.

B. Study the situation below, then answer the questions that follow.
In a household, a family of seven members shares the spaces of two bedrooms, one comfort room, a
kitchen, a living room and a balcony. The bedrooms have light bulbs and ceiling fan. The comfort room that has
one light bulb is situated near the living room that also has light bulb, refrigerator, ceiling fan, and TV in place.
In the kitchen space, light bulb, washing machine, heater and electric stove can be found. The household has
also a balcony installed with a light bulb.
1. How are the light bulbs connected in the household?

C. Determine whether the electrical circuit shown below is a Series Circuit (SC), or Parallel Circuit (PC).

V. Assignment
 Name the tools that are needed in the installation of series and parallel circuits.
