Mechanics – a field of physics that deals with the motion of objects and the
energy and forces that affect it .
Kinematics - describe motion of objects , point or systems, excluding the
forces involved . Dynamics – deal with forces and the causes of the motion. Motion - is the continuous change in the position of a body. 3 types of motion Translational/rectilinear motion – motion of an object that moves along a path without rotating Rotational motion – motion of a rigid body about an axis Vibrational The coordinate axes can serve as the frame of reference . Distance – the total space or length covered regardless of the direction . (scalar) Displacement – is the straight line distance or change from the initial to the terminal position of the object . Average speed – refers to the total distance an object travels over a given time interval. Average velocity - refers to how far is the object displaced over a given time interval . Instantaneous speed – refers to the speed at a specific time . Instantaneous velocity – refers to the velocity at a specific time .
