1.0 PURPOSE
1.1 The purpose of this Procedure is to provide minimum requirement for Setting out
Benchmark and Survey Works at KNPC for Clean Fuels Project.

4.5.12 U/G - Under Ground


5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Responsibility
5.1.1 Surveyor: shall be responsible for survey works at construction sites. He is Person to
be aware of location of underground cable before driving steel pins into the ground.
Levelling Chainman/Surveyor shall be aware of danger of working close to/or under-
overhead cables whilst using levelling staff & ranging poles. Surveyor shall be
responsible for overall survey works and control of Benchmarks.
5.1.2 QC Inspector: shall be responsible for witnessing the Survey works.
5.1.3 Safety Supervisor: Ensure all necessary work permits are obtained prior to
commencement of any work. Check personnel and confirm compliance to safety
requirements and work areas for any unsafe condition. The usage of the following
PPE is mandatory during work; Hard hat, Cover all Steel Cap safety shoe, Safety
Goggles, Hand Gloves.
5.1.4 Attendant (Stand-by person): An individual stationed outside the confined space who
monitors the authorized entrants and is trained to provide assistance to the entrant if he
gets in trouble or needs assistance.
5.1.5 Authorized Entrant: An employee who is authorized by the permit executor and / or
issuer to enter a confined space and is trained to understand the potential hazards, the
precautions to be taken, the scope of work, limits of the specified work, the evacuation,
communication procedures and knows the other people involved in the entry.
5.2 Equipments & Tools
5.2.1 Equipment to be used in the execution of the survey works are listed below. All
survey instruments shall be calibrated periodically (every Six months) and calibration
record shall be maintained for reference whenever required.
 Total Station and Prism

 Auto Level with Level Staff
 Linear Measuring Tape
 Trimble GPS etc.
5.3 Horizontal and Vertical Control
5.3.1 Survey drawings shall be established to show the proposed benchmark & control
point’s location as convenient to execution, which shall be reviewed by Contractor /
Company prior to start of any survey activities.
5.3.2 The topographic survey shall be performed to establish horizontal and vertical control
points for construction of the new facilities and shall be as per approved drawings &
DEP 34.11.00.10-Gen. All the elevations shall be related to Mina Al-Ahmadi
Construction Datum (MACD).
5.3.3 Survey monuments / pillars shall be constructed at the locations as shown in the
drawings. All new monuments shall be marked and verified from the existing KNPC
survey monument.

5.3.4 For primary setting out of grid points, GPS or Total Station shall be used.
5.3.5 For establishing the bench mark suitable check level shall be performed with known
reference to ensure the accuracy of transferred level.
5.4 Setting Out
5.4.1 For primary setting out of grid points, Theodolite / Total Station / Auto Level shall be
used which is periodically calibrated every six months to ensure accuracy of the
instruments, and current calibration certificate shall be available.
5.4.2 For setting out of the principal grid points, a Total Station shall be used.
5.4.3 For fixing of bench mark elevations Dumpy level shall be used, which shall be
calibrated every six months to ensure accuracy of the instruments, and current
calibration certificate shall be available.
5.5 Frequency & Accuracy of Readings
5.5.1 Frequency of readings shall provide sufficient details to enable preparation of cut &
fill calculations, grading drawings and pipe routing drawing.
5.5.2 Ground levels should be taken based on drawing layout area.
5.5.3 Accuracy of the readings shall be as per DEP34.11.00.11-Gen.
5.6 Documentation
5.6.1 Sub Contractor shall draft the drawings/ documents with the minimum requirements
of plan, contours, uniform grid intervals, identification of existing facilities, Under
Ground services and structures including their details, levels etc.
5.6.2 All survey & setting out works shall be recorded in the JGSK-QC-1000-01. Any
deviation from the required shall be brought to contractor / company for proper re-
solutions.
5.6.3 Contractor deliverable shall be strictly in accordance with DEP 34.11.00.10-Gen.
5.7 Structure
5.7.1 Temporary reference points shall be established around proposed new structures from
the approved bench marks. Number of reference points according to site condition.
5.7.2 These points shall be maintained up to end of the construction period.
5.7.3 Setting out of new structures shall be established from the reference points.
5.8 Survey Works
5.8.1 The necessary bench marks required to execute the survey work, and drawings
showing the approximate locations, for main structures, shall be determined with
Company’s approval.
5.8.2 Protective barriers wherever required shall be installed at sufficient distance from the
monuments so not to disturb it. Allow suitable access/space to set up instrument above
the monuments whenever required.
5.8.3 Stacks, temporary benchmarks and permanent benchmarks shall be regularly
maintained and protected with barricades during the contract period. The bench mark
pillars shall be made of concrete. The bench mark pillars shall be minimum 450 mm

square in plan, projecting at least 100 mm above the finished grade level / adjacent
road level.
5.8.4 A steel plate bearing the unique Identification shall be embedded on the top. These
bench marks shall be protected against damage.
5.8.5 Minimum of three (03) numbers of bench mark pillars shall be installed according to
the site requirement. These pillars shall be embedded into the ground by about 400mm
to 500mm. A brass plate shall be fixed by embedding lugs into the concrete.
5.8.6 A metal detector will be run through the work locations and all the underground
services shall be marked and exposed accordingly. The service level shall be
recorded. Refer to slit trenching reports and drawings.
5.8.7 The bottom of the trench will be determined according to the specification and AFC
drawings.
5.9 As-Built Surveying Data
5.9.1 Any type of change which has a deviation from the contract drawing shall be
incorporated in the As-built drawings.
5.9.2 “As built” surveying data shall be prepared and submitted to Contractor/Company for
review and approval.
5.9.3 The survey drawings shall be plotted to sufficient scale to allow all survey details to
be clearly shown and relevant information to be annotated without obscuring such
details. These drawings shall be submitted to Contractor/Company after completion of
construction work and verified by respective site Engineers.
5.10 Personnel
5.10.1 Setting out and the establishment of permanent bench marks shall be undertaken by
the qualified surveyors.
5.11 Safety
5.11.1 Safety aspects of the operation shall be in accordance with Project HSE plan and
Company Fire and Safety regulations.
5.11.2 All workmen shall wear the required PPE at all times on site.
