QUALITY ASSURANCE

1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is to outline the processes and
guidelines for the Quality Assurance (QA) Department to conduct type testing of cables and
conductors in accordance with the IEC and BSS. This SOP aims to ensure that cable
products meet the required standards for safety, performance, and reliability and guarantee
the quality and safety of our products and to maintain compliance with ISO 9001 standards.

2. SCOPE
This SOP covers the procedures for planning, conducting, and documenting type testing of
cables under QA department in compliance with IEC and BS standards.

5. FREQUENCY
Type testing shall be conducted on representative samples of each cable and conductor type
according to the following frequency:

5.1 Initial Type Testing: Before the introduction of a new cable or conductor type.

5.2 Periodic Type Testing: At regular intervals as per Testing plan defined by Manager QA.

5.3 Special Type Testing: Whenever there are significant changes in materials,
manufacturing processes, or design or as per requirement of customer

6. PROCEDURE
6.1 The Assistant Manager will devise the plan for conducting type testing on cables and
conductors, informing the QA Manager, and subsequently executing the plan.
6.2 Whenever a new type of cable or conductor is manufactured for the first time, the QA
department will conduct all necessary type testing to meet IEC and BSS standards.
Periodic type testing will occur monthly, with special testing conducted in the event of
any changes in material recipe or supplier.
6.3 The QA department will conduct comprehensive in-house type testing on samples
designated for testing/certification by third-party laboratories/accreditation bodies.
6.4 Type testing will encompass cables as well as PVC, XLPE, XLPO, and LSZH
materials for both insulation and sheath, adhering to relevant IEC and BS standards,
including mechanical, electrical, thermal, and chemical tests.
6.5 XLPE, PVC, XLPO, LSZH material will be extruded on a cable in the presence of QA
Engineer. QA Engineer will collect the sample and conduct required type test as per
standards.
6.6 Quality Assurance (QA) department selects representative samples of cables and
conductors based on product types and production batches. Samples are chosen
randomly from the production line to ensure unbiased representation.
6.7 After selection of sample QA Engineer will conduct the type test as per IEC and BSS
standards and document all test results.
6.8 On PVC material for insulation QA Engineer will conduct complete type testing
specified in IEC and BSS standards i.e. thermal ageing test, Electrical tests, pressure
test, heat shock test, cold bend test, cold elongation test, water absorption test, loss
of mass test, flame spread test and document all results on form# QA-P4-F1 and get
it verified by QA Manager.
6.9 On PVC material for sheath QA Engineer will conduct complete type testing specified
in IEC and BSS standards and document all results on form# QA-P4-F2 and get it
verified by QA Manager.
6.10 On XLPE material for insulation QA Engineer will conduct complete type testing
specified in IEC and BSS standards and document all results on form# QA-P4-F3 and
get it verified by QA Manager.
6.11 In case of LSZH insulated and sheathed cables LSZH insulation & sheath material
will undergo all type testing as per specified standards and QA Engineer will document
all results on form# QA-P4-F4 and form# QA-P4-F5 respectively and get it verified by
QA Manager.
6.12 QA Engineer will perform all type tests on conductors as per specified standards and
document results on form# QA-P4-F6 and get it verified by Manager QA.
6.13 QA Engineer will ensure that all equipment used in testing should be calibrated from
any third party (PCSIR).
6.14 All the testing activity will be supervised by Manager QA and Assistant Manager QA.

6.15 If any deviations or non-conformities are identified during testing, QA Engineer will
document them and Manage the Non-Conformance as per SOP-QC-U2-02.
6.16 QA Engineer will keep the record of all type testing in lab record and will be
responsible of provision any such data to all concerned stakeholders with permission
of QA Manager.
6.17 QA Engineer will ensure adherence to all clauses of ISO-9001 standard during
implementation of this SOP.
6.18 All forms and records of this SOP will be retained for one year and after one-year data
will be discarded as per company policy.
