The Administration,

Kumasi.

Dear Administration,

OUTREACHPROGRAMMEPROPOSAL
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to propose an educational outreach initiative
from our student club, ‘Arm(E3)NGAGE’, aimed at enriching your students' learning
experiences in cutting-edge technologies.

This student club consists of a group of enthusiastic volunteers proficient in Artificial

Intelligence, Programming, and the Internet of Things (IoT) Technologies. We are eager to
share our knowledge and passion with your students through interactive sessions and a hands-on
workshop designed to spark curiosity and enhance their technical skills.

We believe this program can be a valuable addition to the early learning experience by providing
students with practical insights into the technologies shaping their future. We would be delighted
to discuss this further and tailor our sessions to fit your academic goals and schedule.

Attached is the objective and lesson module of this programme. Looking forward to the
possibility of collaborating with you.

Warm Regards

Toufiq Musah Professor Abdul-Rahman Ahmed

Objective:
By the end of this session, students will understand the basic concepts of microcontrollers and their role
in technology. They will gain hands-on experience in programming an Arm BBC micro:bit using
MicroPython.

Materials:
BBC micro:bit kit provided to each student group
Computers with internet access and USB ports
Projector and screen for demonstrations
Printed copies of MicroPython syntax and commands

Session Breakdown:
1. Introduction to Microcontrollers (15 minutes)
Objective: Understand what a microcontroller is and its uses in everyday technology.
Activities:
● Brief presentation on microcontrollers, their components, and their role in devices like
smartphones, appliances, and cars.
● Discuss the differences between microcontrollers and microprocessors.

2. Overview of IoT and Hardware Engineering (15 minutes)

Objective: Learn how microcontrollers are applied in IoT and the field of hardware engineering.
Activities:
● Introduction to IoT and how microcontrollers enable IoT solutions.
● Examples of IoT devices and the role of hardware engineering in their development.
3. Introduction to BBC micro:bit and MicroPython (20 minutes)
Objective: Familiarize with the Arm BBC micro:bit kit and the basics of MicroPython.
Activities:
● Show the micro:bit kit, discuss its features and capabilities.
● Overview of MicroPython and its relevance to microcontroller programming.
4. Hands-On Session: Getting Started with MicroPython (40 minutes)
Objective: Write basic programs using MicroPython.
Activities:
● Students set up their Arm micro:bit kits and connect them to their computers.
● Walkthrough of writing a simple program (e.g., blinking LED, displaying text).
● Students practice modifying the code to perform simple tasks (change blink speed, display
different messages).

5. Project: Simple IoT Device (30 minutes)

Objective: Apply learned skills to create a basic IoT device using the Microbit.
Activities:
● Students use sensors on the Microbit to design a project (e.g., temperature monitor, simple
motion detector).
● Implement the project with guidance, using MicroPython to program responses based on sensor
input.

6. Discussion and Q&A (15 minutes)

Objective: Recap the day’s learning and clarify any doubts.
Activities:
● Discuss what was learned and how it can be applied in real-world scenarios.
● Q&A session to resolve any queries and discuss further applications of microcontrollers.

Closure (5 minutes)
● Summarize the session and discuss the potential for further learning in programming and
hardware development.
● Provide resources for further exploration of microcontrollers and MicroPython.

Evaluation:
Informal feedback during the Q&A and observation of student engagement and understanding during
the hands-on session.
