ADVISER Agreement
This Thesis Adviser and Advisees Agreement (the "Agreement") is made and entered into this
Date: NOVEMBER 4, 2024, in Bacolod City by and between:
MS. AIZA PACURIB VILLANUEVA a full-time faculty member of the College of Criminal
Justice Education at STI West Negros University, hereinafter referred to as "Adviser."

RECITALS:
The Adviser is a part-time CCJE faculty member of the Institution with a Doctor of Philosophy
in Criminal Justice in Criminology and a domain expert in the Advisees' area of study.
The Advisees are students enrolled in CRIM 1841 (Criminological Research 1) and CRIM 1843
(Criminological Research 2) as a terminal requirement of the BS Criminology Program who seek
advice and guidance in the conduct of a thesis/research paper.
For the mutual benefit of the parties and to strengthen the terms and conditions between them,
they find it appropriate to execute this Agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, for and in consideration of the foregoing premises, the parties hereby
enter into this agreement and undertake as follows:
The Thesis Adviser must perform the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Guide the student researchers through the whole thesis life cycle, including but not
limited to conceptualization, proposal, implementation, the conduct of the study, and
documentation. In addition, Advisers shall provide technical expertise and moral
guidance to the student researchers while the latter are working on their thesis.
2. Coordinate with the Research Adviser and Coordinator as to the schedule and venue of
defense.
3. Endorse to the Research Adviser the proposed title of each Research Group and to
recommend whether the research group is ready for proposal or final defense by signing
the recommendation form.
4. Assist in creating a research timeline.
5. Accomplish the Research Consultation Form every week (2 hours/week) to be
submitted to the Research Adviser.
6. Conducts face-to-face and online meetings with the research groups during non-working
1. hours; preferably on the scheduled consultation time.
7. Submit minutes of meetings / consultations with the research groups using the
standardized template.
8. Requires submission of outputs on assigned tasks and give feedbacks within 3 days upon
receipt of the submitted outputs of the research groups. However, the Adviser shall only
provide assistance and correction on matters beyond the capability of the research groups.
9. Assist in the conversion of the research output into publishable research article.
10. Ensures that the institution's policy on plagiarism and ethical standard are observed by
the research group.
11. Conduct a mock defense with the research adviser and coordinator before the proposal or
final defense, when necessary, and attend the defense of the student researchers as an
OBSERVER.
12. Handle at most four (4) thesis every school year.
ADVISER'S FEE
An Adviser's Fee is an honorarium for their services as a guide and technical consultant of the
research group. The Adviser shall receive an honorarium of P1,000 per group per term and be
subjected to compensation tax. The honorarium shall be credited to the adviser's bank account by
the Finance Office.
The Advisee's shall:
1. Pass the comprehensive examination to be allowed to join in the research group for the
conduct of research.
2. Ensures that the thesis is, first and foremost, an original work, albeit achieved with advice
and guidance from the Research Adviser.
3. Work independently under the guidance of the Adviser to develop a thesis, establish a
clear timeline, and meet established deadlines.
4. Submit and endorse the Research Proposal/Defense Application Form.
5. Meet regularly (at least three hours per week) with the Adviser and provide regular
progress updates while following the agreed timeline faithfully. The research
group/student researchers shall make appointments to see their Adviser and arrange
meeting times well in advance. The Advisees shall prepare a discussion plan or guide to
derive maximum benefits in these contact sessions.
6. Ensure to submit a progress report to the research coordinator once a week and at least
four (4) consultation forms at the end of every month.
7. Submit written outputs relatively free of basic spelling mistakes, incorrect punctuation,
and grammatical errors. Responsibility for the accuracy of language, the overall structure,
and coherence of the title, research proposal, or research documentation rest on the study.
8. Heed the advice of the Adviser and engaged in discussion around suggestions made.
9. Work following the criteria of acceptability as supplied by the Adviser or research
coordinator. Ultimately, the Advisees are responsible for the quality and presentation of
the work. Hence, the Advisees shall only place the Adviser under pressure to submit
work for examination once the Adviser is satisfied that it has reached an acceptable level
of quality.
10. Attend and participate in lectures, meetings, seminars, workshops, etc., that are part
educational program and as the research adviser and coordinator recommends. of the
11. Comply with all institutional policies, including the academic and ethical standards for
the BS Criminology program, authorship and co-authorship policy, and intellectual
property guidelines.
12. Ensure that the work contains no instances of plagiarism and that all citations are
correctly referenced using APA 7th edition, and that the list of references is accurate,
complete, and consistent.
13. Applications such as Grammarly or Turnitin may be used to check the plagiarism level of
the research paper. At least 20% is allowed. Proof of plagiarism check must be submitted
to the research coordinator before the final hardbound of the thesis.
14. Secure proof of language editing by an accredited language editor or use the licensed
Grammarly application of the College. Proof of certification must be secured and
15. Submit three (3) final hardbound copies for the CCJE office, RPO and Library. In
addition,
1. three (3) electronic copies of the final document in CD form shall be submitted to the
2. research coordinator, RPO and library.
16. Participate in the College Research Colloquium for the study presentation and peer
review. The student researchers/research group must also produce the research posters,
which shall be displayed in the College lobby.
17. Submit publishable articles for publication in the format prescribed by the target journal.
The thesis adviser and research adviser shall be included as co-authors in recognition of
their significant contributions from the inception to the completion of the research.
Both the Adviser and Advisees share several responsibilities during thesis writing. These
responsibilities are:
5. Ensure that research involving human subjects is conducted according to the procedures
and the requirements of the ethical standard of the institution.
6. Complete weekly and monthly progress reports as requested by the research adviser,
research coordinator, the Research and Publication Office, or the College of Criminal
Justice Education.
7. The parties further agree that any financial benefit arising from the study, such as grants,
and the award shall go to the Advisees while benefit from publication shall go to the rank
and promotion of the Adviser.
IN TRUTH AND WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties have hereunto set their hands on
