Bees

Fantastic Facts about Honeybees and Honey!

The honeybee has six legs, four wings and two stomachs.

One stomach is used to store nectar.

In one trip, the honeybee will visit between 50 to 100

flowers.

The honeybee is very strong. It can carry more than half

its weight in nectar and pollen

Honeybees have been producing honey for about 150

million years.

Honeybees talk to each other by ‘dancing’. When a honey

bee returns to the hive it dances to show the other bees

where the best flowers are. By dancing it can tell the

other bees, how far away the flower is, what direction to

take and how much food the flower has.

Bees eat honey. They fly from flower to flower collecting

nectar in order to make and store honey. They eat this

honey in winter when there are no flowers.

Honey does not turn bad. It can be kept for a long time.

Honey contains lots of vitamins which keep us healthy.

Honey can be used to treat small burns and wounds.

Honey gives us energy.
