THE FINISHED WORK OF GRACE (SANCTIFICATION)

COORDINATION

Introduction

At this seventh instalment of our Bible Study series on Sanctification as the

Finished Work of Grace, we need to remind us that all that God has for us has
been packaged as grace through the redemptive works of Jesus which
started from his incarnation, and through his passion, his death and
concluded at his resurrection. That is, all proceeds of redemption are
packaged in grace. Sanctification, which is our focus so far, is one of the
proceeds of redemption that has been packaged for us in grace. But these
grace packages are stored in the heavenly warehouse of the word of God.
For their release and receipt, however, we need the Holy Spirit as the courier.
In essence, the Holy Spirit coordinates it all and it will serve us well that we
pay attention to his impartation and direction.

Impartation By the Spirit - 2 Corinthians 3:17-18

The reason the graces from our Lord Jesus Christ are also called the graces of
the Spirit is because the Holy Spirit coordinates the release and the receipt
of the graces from the word of God as we can see from the introduction. 2
Corinthians 3:18 describes how grace is released from the word of God to
make us more and more like Christ through the Spirit. So, as we come to the
word of God, we must open up to the Holy Spirit for the impartation of grace
from the word of God to build us up.

Direction By the Spirit - Romans 8:14

The Holy Spirit does not only impart us with grace to enable us to live a
sanctified life, he also personally gives us blow-by-blow directions on the
steps to take and the steps not to take, what to do and what not to do. These
constant updates, which come through inner releases and restraints (inner
witnesses – Romans 8:16), are what keep us as sons of God (Romans 8:14)
and help us not to fulfil the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16-18).
