SOP for Calibration of Calibration of Level Transmitter Time of Flight
SCSGDOC-0027
• Both the operator and the person responsible for the process should be informed that a Service job will be
carried out
• A permit to work should be obtained before commencement of any service activities.
• If applicable, before disconnecting any sensor that is attached to the process, determine what chemical or
liquid is being measured (observe safety data sheet).
• Be aware of the temperature of machines, pipes and construction before touching it.
• Be aware of the extreme ambient temperature at the place of performing calibration.
• Never open a process fitting or loosen flange bolts before you have confirmed it is safe to do so.
• Be sure not to disturb the process when disconnecting inputs/outputs.
• Be aware of the local safety instructions and always work according to Endress+Hauser Standard
Operating Procedure of Health and Safety
• Ensure tools, equipment and the end-user processes are protected from cross contamination. Consider
and plan necessary cleaning steps before and after a calibration.
• When service requiring chemicals (e.g. as reagents for standard operation or for cleaning purposes),
always follow and observe the safety regulations stated in the safety data sheet

6.0 Preparation
• Before starting a calibration, perform a visual inspection of the measuring instrument to ensure that the
instruments are not damaged or require repair. If there is any doubt, it is advisable to postpone
calibration of device until proper functioning of the instrument is restored.
• Ensure tank is re-pressurize.
• In case any change of UUT settings is needed before or during calibration be sure to store or record
original settings.
• Record the ‘as found’ value before commencement of calibration steps.
• Save as found parameter setting.

8.0 Reporting
• Do use only standard reports generating tools and calibration certificate templates provided by
Endress+Hauser Service Office unless other is agreed with the end-user.
• Ensure that all the fields in issued Calibration Certificates are filled.
• Once adjustment of UUT was performed to resolve non-conformity this should be reported in detail.
Calibration procedure must be repeated and “as left” calibration results should be filed alongside the
original “as found” results in Calibration Certificate.
9.0 Handover
• Do not perform adjustment or repair of device to resolve non-conformity until this is agreed with the
end-user.
• Should adjustment be necessary and possible with the device, the specific procedure from the
manufacturer’s operating and maintenance manual should be followed.
• Prior to returning the instrument to end-user, any internal settings that have been changed to enable
calibration must be re-installed to their original values.
• Affix a calibration label to the UUT after job completion.
• Calibration Certificates should be passed to end-user either as signed printouts or as files with
electronic signature. A copy of every Calibration Certificate file should remain at Endress+Hauser
storage. Wherever established, Calibration Certificates should be stored in Calibration and
Maintenance Management System and/or Plant Assets Management System linked to a UUT record.
10.0 Interval
The calibration interval depends on the application, the function of the instruments in the process as well as
the user requirements and the manufacturer’s specifications. The calibration intervals are determined by
end-user. Endress+Hauser may provide consulting on calibration intervals or calibration management
services on request.
No recalibration date is to be included on the Calibration Certificate or label unless agreed upon by the end-
user.
