Computer Engineering/IT Field Issues in the Philippines

Why is there no board examination for Computer Engineering in the Philippines?

According to BusinessWorld, the Philippines will face an oversupply of Information Technology (IT)
graduates by 2025.
Research on what caused this to happen and the effects it would create on the field.

According to a report of Inquirer.net, cybercrime cases rose from 2013 to 2019. What are the causes of
this event?

Why Is there no board exam for Computer Engineering in the Philippines?

The first step that we need to do is to outline the purpose of the study we need to know what is the Status of
Computer Engineering, there are accredited programs in the Philippines that offer a degree in Computer Engineering,
but these programs have not yet been legislated by law to mandate a licensure exam similar to those demanded from
other engineering disciplines.
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) governs a few professions but has yet to issue standards calling for
a board exam in this particular profession. Next step is to identify the problems from the Educational Structure of
Comp Engineering course, there are those offered by the educational system in the Philippines under computer
science and engineering. Most offer degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Computer
Engineering; however, these programs take different routes to computing and therefore do not necessarily mirror
what would be necessary to sit for a standard licensure exam. The unavailability of an agreed-upon set of
competencies required to practice therefore acts as a stumbling block in setting up a standardized board examination.
The 3rd step which we need to select the major problem in the case which is lack of standardized Curriculum, one of
the central problems is that Computer Engineering curricula spread out in universities without a standard curriculum.
Curricula for Computer Engineering differ from civil or mechanical engineering curricula, which have well-defined
domains of knowledge, along with competencies required by the PRC. In fact, curricula for Computer Engineering
vary widely from one institution to another. That makes it unmanageable to develop uniform standards necessary for
a licensure examination. The 4th step is suggest some solutions to implement the regulation of frameworks for
existing regulatory structure for the practicing of engineering profession in the Philippines does not separate
Computer Engineering as one of the categories that demands license. Last step is to recommend the best solution in
this problem that the Computer Engineering Course needs a encourage collaboration for professional associations
between educational institutions and professional associations to create standards for curriculum development aligned
with industry needs.
