7. The polynomial 𝑥 3 + 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏 where 𝑎 and 𝑏 are constants leaves a remender of 11 and 41


when divided by (𝑥 − 3) and (𝑥 − 4) respectively. Find the remainder when the same
polynomial is divided by (𝑥 − 5) (10 marks)

8. The table below shows some values of 𝑥 and 𝑦 for the equation 𝑦 = 𝑥 3 - 6𝑥 - 1

9. The sum of the first three positive numbers of Geometric progressions is 52. The square of
the second number is equal to four times the third number. Calculate the third term of
the progression. (10 marks)

10. ABCD is a rectangular base of a right pyramid. AD = 8m and DC =6m. VO is vertical


height. O is the mid-point of AC.

If VO = 12m. Find
i. The length of VC
ii. The angle which VC makes wit h the base ABCD to the nearest degree (10

11. The parking fee (𝑃) for an aeroplane at an airport is partly constant and partly varies
with time (𝑇) that it takes at the airport. A one hour fee is K200, 000 and two hour fee is
K375, 000. Calculate the time taken for an aeroplane which has been charged a fee of
K112, 500. (10marks)

12. Zione wants to make some fruit cakes and sponge cakes. She has plenty of all
ingredients except flour and sugar. She has only 2000g of flour and 1200g of sugar. A
fruit cake uses 500g of flour and 100g of sugar. A sponge cake uses 200g of flour and
200g of sugar. She wishes to make at least two cakes of sponge and at least one fruit
cake
a. Taking 𝑥 to be a number of fruit cakes and 𝑦 to be the number of sponge cakes,
write down four inequalities that must be satisfied. (3 marks)
