Assessment 2 Instructions
Assessment 2 Instructions
o Contribution: Individual
o Percentage: 35%
This assessment task has two (2) separate parts. Students are required to submit
their answers in a single MS word file under two separate headings as follows:
In the first part of this assessment, you are asked to revisit the TelecomOptic
production facility location example discussed HERE. Using the input data
provided in HERE (see Figure 1) along with the solution you obtained to
the production facility location model in activity 2 and 3, answer the following
questions:
Question 1: How would the network design obtained in Activity 3 change if
a new constraint is introduced which states that all five plants must stay
open? Run this in solver and obtain the new production allocation. Attach
the input and output tables as image files to your report and explain your
observations.
Question 2: Is there a major difference in total cost between the optimal
network design for TelecomOne and HighOptic individually (see activity 2),
for TelcomOptic (see activity 3), and for the design requiring all the
TelecomOptic plants to remain open (your answer to above Question 1)?
What is another way to determine whether this is an efficient solution or
not? Attach the input and output tables as image files to your report and
explain your observations.
You may refer to the information in your workbook as well as pg. 139-140 of the
required reading as needed.
In the second part of this assessment, you are asked to use the Network Design
Log Hub Module (tutorial provided HERE) and write an analytical report by
addressing the following problem:
Problem Statement: Coolies Australia has decided to manufacture some
Coolies brand products within the state for the Victorian market. They have
identified two locations to set up factories that manufacture non-perishable high
demand products in the state. Coolies wants to obtain an optimized network for
this setup to ensure they have selected ideal locations for their factories. In
particular, they want to ensure these factories are appropriately established to i)
support all the GHPL warehouses and ii) serve customers falling under ZIP codes
ranging from 3000-3130. Using the Coolies data set provided here run the
network design module to determine the ideal supply chain network. You might
be required to add to or sort the data, or rename certain columns to successfully
run the model:
