Problem: Traffic congestion and public safety issues, including cases of individuals carrying
weapons, have become common in urban areas like Dhaka. The need for a system that manages
traffic flow and addresses safety concerns is growing.
Solution: Develop a comprehensive system using computer vision with two primary
components:
1. Traffic Flow Management: The system will analyze live footage from street cameras to
detect areas with high congestion and adjust traffic signals in real time, optimizing
vehicular flow, especially during peak hours.
Problem: Monitoring fish populations and behaviors underwater is essential for environmental
conservation, fisheries management, and marine research. However, traditional methods involve
manual counting and tagging, which are labor-intensive, costly, and may disturb marine life.
Solution: Develop an AI-powered underwater fish detection system using computer vision. The
system could use underwater cameras or drones to capture footage, which a deep learning model
would then process to detect and classify various fish species. The system could track fish
populations and unwanted fish that shouldn’t be in the pond or an area. For example, recently, in
Bangladesh, in many ponds or rivers, we have seen Suckermouth catfish (Sakar mach).
Issue: Numerous elderly individuals reside independently, rendering falls or incidents within the
home difficult due to the possibility of delayed aid.
Solution: Employ computer vision to create a model for monitoring movements throughout the
home, enabling the detection of falls or atypical inactivity. This system can promptly notify
family members or carers, enhancing safety and offering reassurance.
Automated Crop Disease Detection
Problem: Many urban dwellers now grow plants at home or in small urban farms, but they may
struggle to identify diseases early on, affecting yield and quality.
Solution: Create a mobile app that uses deep learning to diagnose plant diseases from images
uploaded by users. It could suggest treatments or precautions based on detected issues, making
urban agriculture more accessible and productive for city dwellers.
Problem: Waste management is a significant issue in urban areas, with limited recycling
systems. Sorting waste manually is labor-intensive and inefficient.
Solution: Develop a deep learning model using computer vision to classify waste (plastic,
organic, metal, glass) by analyzing images of waste materials. This system could be implemented
in recycling bins to automate sorting, making recycling more efficient and accessible.
