HIPPA COMPLIANCE
HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) is a U.S. federal law enacted in
1996 that governs the protection and privacy of patient health information. It sets standards for the
electronic transmission of health information and ensures that individuals' medical data is
securely handled and kept confdential. HIPAA compliance is essential for healthcare providers,
insurance companies, and organizations that handle protected health information (PHI).
The main goal of HIPAA is to ensure confdentiality, security, and privacy of health information
while allowing healthcare systems to efciently share data and improve the quality of care.
