A. Reviewing Good morning, everyone.

previous Let’s have first a quick recap
lessons or to our last lesson.
presenting the
new lesson. First question: What is the formula
for the volume of a cylinder?
ELICIT
It's πr2^h.
Great! Now, let's make it simple. Can
anyone tell me what π or pi is?
It's a number, about 3.14.
Yes, π or pi is 3.14. What about r?
r is the radius of the circle at the bottom.
Correct! r is the radius. And what
does h stand for?
h is the height of the cylinder.
Perfect! So, the volume formula
πr^2h means we multiply 3.14, the
radius squared, and the height. Well
done, everyone!

B. Establishing a Let's do Activity 1: Find My Volume!

purpose for Here’s a figure of a cylinder.
the lesson
ENGAGE First question: What is the first step
in using the formula to find the
volume of this cylinder?
Find the radius and height?
Yes! Identify the radius and height of
the cylinder.

Now, the second question: How do

you calculate the area of the base of
the cylinder using the radius?
Use the formula πr^2?
Exactly! You use the formula πr^2to
find the area of the base.
Lastly, what is the final step to find
the volume after calculating the base
area? Multiply the base area by the height.

Perfect! So the final step is to

multiply the area of the base by the
height.

new concepts how to find the volume of a cylinder.
and practicing That just means figuring out how
new skills. much space is inside a cylinder, like if
you wanted to fill it with water.
EXPLORE
To find the volume, we use a special
rule, or formula. The formula is: V = π
r² h.

Let’s go through each part. The V

stands for volume, which is what
we’re finding—the space inside the
cylinder. Next, we have π. We say
this as 'pi,' and it’s a number we use
with circles. Pi is about 3.14. So
whenever you see π, just think of
3.14 So π is 3.14?

Yes, that’s right! Now, r stands for

radius. The radius is the distance
from the center of the circle at the
bottom of the cylinder to the edge.
And r² means we multiply the radius Like, if the radius is 3, we do 3 times 3?
by itself.

Exactly! So if our radius is 3, then r² is So, height just means how tall it is?
9. The last part is h, which stands for
height—how tall the cylinder is

Yes, that’s right! So, to find the

volume, we:

Square the radius.

Multiply by 3.14 (π).

Then multiply by the height.

D. Developing Let’s find the volume of these two
mastery cylinders. Remember, to find the
volume of a cylinder, we use the
EXPLAIN
formula: V = π r² h. This means
we multiply pi (π), the radius
squared, and the height.

Let’s start with the first cylinder.

The radius is 7 cm, and the height
is 10 cm.

Nagtablaan National High School

www.facebook.com/DEPEDnagtablaanNHS
Step 1: We square the radius. So, 7
times 7 is 49.

Step 2: We multiply 49 by π,
which is 3.14. That gives us
153.86.

Step 3: Finally, we multiply by the

height, which is 10 cm. So, 153.86
times 10 equals 1538.6.

The volume of the first cylinder is

1538.6 cubic centimeters.

Now, let’s do the second cylinder.

This one has a radius of 4 meters
and a height of 10 meters.

Can someone try it?

Step 1: Square the radius. So, 4 times 4 is

16.

Step 2: Multiply 16 by π, or 3.14. That

gives us 50.24.

Step 3: Multiply by the height, which is 10

meters. So, 50.24 times 10 is 502.4.

The volume of the second cylinder is 502.4

cubic meters.

That is correct.

So, remember, finding the volume

is just about following these three
steps. Square the radius, multiply
by 3.14, and then multiply by the
height. Any questions?
None ma’am.

E. APPLICATION Alright, class! Let’s figure out the

volume of this cylinder together.
The cylinder has a diameter of 8
cm and a height of 10 cm. How
should we start? First, I think we need to find the radius. Since
the diameter is 8 cm, the radius would be
8.2=4 cm.

Can you finish it?

Next, we use the formula for the volume of

a cylinder, which is V=πr^2h. So, we

Nagtablaan National High School

substitute in the radius and height:
V=π×4^2×10

4^2 is 16, so it becomes V=π×16×10

Then, 16×10=160, so V=160π cm³.

If we use 3.14 for π, then 160×3.14=502.4

That is correct. Good job. cm³.

F. Making Alright, class, let’s review. How do we

generalization find the volume of a cylinder? Who
and can tell me what formula we use? The formula is V = π r² h.
abstraction
about the Good! Now, what does each part of
lesson. the formula mean? Let’s start with r.
What is r?
ELABORATE
It’s the radius of the cylinder’s base.
Exactly. And what does h stand for?
The height of the cylinder."

Right! So to find the volume, we:

1. Square the radius,

2. Multiply by 3.14,
3. Then multiply by the height."

That’s it! Great job, everyone. Just

remember to follow these steps."
