Q.no. 38 is a case - based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub - parts. Internal
choice is provided in one of these sub-parts.
The endocrine system comprises of different endocrine glands and hormones. These
38 endocrine glands in animals help in the chemical coordination. They secrete chemicals 4
called hormones. They are special messengers that control many body functions,
including hunger, body temperature, mood, growth and development, metabolism,
reproductive processes etc. The endocrine glands are ductless and hence are also called
as ductless glands. We can observe in society that short as well as tall people exists.
The shortness as well as tallness is actually due to the action of a particular hormone.

b i). Name the hormone, which is responsible for tallness and dwarfness in human 1
beings.
(ii)Mention the gland which secretes this hormone.
c. What is the inbuilt arrangement in our body which controls the timing and amount of 1
hormones released by the endocrine glands?
