A. Preliminary Activities

1. Mathematical Prayer

- Hi, hello, Good Morning, Grade 5! Are you

-Yes teacher, we are ready!
ready to learn and have fun?
- Great! Let us start the day by asking
guidance from above, let us have our opening
prayer to be led by (name of the day’s prayer
leader). Can you lead us our opening prayer?

- (The pupil stands in the front and recites

the mathematical prayer with her

classmates.)

Dear Lord,

Thank you for all the blessings you have added

to my life. To my family, friends, classmates and

teachers. May the sum of this gifts multiply your

goodness and grace as Lord and savior. Guide

us to the way that is true so there may be no

division from your grace. Let me be the

multiplier of your goodness and let no evil be a

divisor of all men. May our faith in you dear

Lord subtract sins and make us true and faithful

as a product of your love. in Jesus' name. Amen.

2. Checking of Classroom Set-up

- Can you pick up the pieces of trash under

your seats and arrange your armchairs

- (Pupils pick-up trash and aligned the
properly.
armchairs)

-Let us proceed.

3. Checking of Attendance

- Class Monitor, are there any absentees for

today?

- Teacher, there are no absentees for today.

4. Checking of Homework

- Do we have any homework?

- None, Teacher.

5. Drill/Review

- Last time, we learned how to read and write

decimals. Now, let us try to answer this

problem.

John was asked by his mom to buy the goods

for their sari-sari store at the market. His mom

gave him the list he needs to buy. When he

got home, he gave his mom a change of 52.17

Php. How do we read and write this number? (The students will read the word problem)

TENS ONES DECIM TENTH HUNDR

AL S EDTHS
POINT

- For us to answer this, let us review this

chart.

52.17 -(The students will analyze the chart)

- The given number is 52.17, number 52 is the

whole number, and the number after the

decimal point is what we call decimal

numbers, which is the number 17.

- Class, who can answer the place value chart

of the given number?

-Teacher, the answer will be:

TENS ONES DECIM TENTHS HUNDRE

AL DTHS
POINT

5 2 . 1 7

- Is that the correct class?

-Yes, Teacher!

- And how can we read it?

-Teacher, it will be like this. Fifty-two and

seventeen hundredths.

- Very Good!

6. Motivation

- Now, let’s play a game. Imagine you’re on a

treasure hunt in a magical world filled with

hidden gems and jewels. The map you have

shows distances in decimals, like 3.78 and

( the students will analyze the game)
6.42 miles. To make your journey smoother,

we’ll learn how to round off these numbers to

the nearest whole number, so you know

exactly how far you need to travel.

- So, the given numbers are 3.78 and 6.42.

Who wants to round off the decimals to the - Teacher the answers will be 4 and 6.

nearest whole number?

-It seems that you can round off numbers to

the nearest whole number.

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation

Now, let us try to check your classmate’s

answer. 3.78 so what is the number after the

decimal point?

- Teacher, the number after the decimal

point is 7.

- That’s right, since the number after the

decimal point is greater than 5, we will add up

1 so the whole number in the given will be 4.

- The next number is 6.42 and your

classmates’ answer is 6. Why do you think the

- Because the number after the decimal
answer is 6?
point is less than 5 so the whole number

will retain.

-Good job! You have to travel 4 and 6 miles

for a total of 10 miles, to finish the treasure

hunt. Now, let us try to enumerate the steps in

rounding off decimal numbers to the nearest

hundredths and thousandths.

2. Discussion

To round decimals to hundredth and

thousandth, let us consider these steps.

1. Identify the digit to be rounded off.

2. Inspect the digit to the right of the required

place.
-(The students will read the steps)

- if the digit is greater than 5, add 1 to the

digit at the required place.

-if the digit is less than 5, retain the digit at

the required place.

- Let us try to round off the number to the

nearest hundredth.

0.314

- What is the number placed in hundredths?

- Number 1 is placed in hundredths,

teacher.

- How about the number after 1?

- The number after 1 is 4, teacher.

- What will be the answer?

- the answer will be 0.31, teacher!

- Why?

- because the digit after 1 is 4 and it is less than

5 so it will retain.

- Very Good! The number after 1 is 4 and it is

less than 5 so it will retain.

- Now, let us try to round off the number to

the nearest thousandth.

20.7553

- What is the number placed in thousandths?

- number 5, teacher!

- How about the number after 5?

- number 3, teacher!

- Class, what will be the answer?

-the answer will be 20.755 teacher!

- Why?

- because the digit after 5 is 3 and it is less than

5 so it will retain.

- Great! Let us have more examples. Can you

answer this table?

DECIMAL Round to the Round to the

11.2475 -(the students will raise their hands and will

complete the table)

GOOD JOB clap!

- Now, let us go back to John.

John and her mom went to the department

store to buy furniture. John accidentally broke

the flower vase inside the store. He went to

his mom to admit his mistake. So her mom

asked the sales lady to know the price of the

vase, and it costs 341.525 php. Round it off

to the nearest hundredths.

341.525 341.53

- teacher, the answer is 341.53

- What will be the answer?
- Because the number after 2 is 5 so we will add
- Why?
1, teacher.

- That’s right! The number after 2 is 5 so we

will add 1 and the price that John's mom

needs to pay is 341.53 php.

-If you were John, are you going to admit to

your mom that you broke the flower vase or - Teacher, I will admit my mistake

not? because lying is not good and we should

always be honest.

- Correct! It is very important to show honesty

at all times.

3. Application

- Now we will be having a group activity. I

will divide the class into four groups. All

you have to do is round off the assigned task

or the situation assigned to you and report it

on how you get the correct answer.

- Did you understand grade 5?

- Yes, teacher!

(the students will form the group and answer the

questions)
Group 1

Your mother asked you to buy 2.468

kilograms of chicken for dinner. What is

the mass of chicken when rounded to the

nearest hundredths?

Group 2
Answers:
A medicine dropper holds 0.923 ml of

Group 3 3.) 0.433

Joey used 0.4328 pounds of cheese to make 4.) 2.19

mac and cheese for dinner. Round the

amount of cheese to the nearest

thousandths.

Group 4

Eliza’s snail travels 2.187 meters in one day.

Round the distance to the nearest

hundredths.

4. Generalization

All of you did a great job today. And with

that, give yourselves ‘’ Ang Galing clap.”

-(students stand up and perform ang galing

clap)
- Before we proceed, have we achieved our

- Yes, teacher
objectives?

- how can we round off decimal numbers to

the nearest hundredths or thousandths?

- teacher, by looking at the number right after
the given place value of the digit.

- what are we going to do if the number after

- teacher, we will add 1 to the digit at the
the digit value is higher than 5? required place.

- what about if the number after the digit

value is less than 5? - teacher, we will retain the digit at the required
place.

-how about the last objective? Will you show

honesty at all times? - Yes, teacher!

- Very Good! It seems like you listen

attentively!
5. Valuing

- Class, why is it important to show honesty at

all times?

- teacher, because not telling the truth is a lie.

- telling the truth helps us to grow and respect

one another.

- It is important to always tell the truth,

especially when you make a mistake. Because

when you tell the truth, you don’t have to

remember anything. Alright class?

- Yes, teacher!
