(c) A body oscillates vertically in SHM with amplitude of 30mm and a frequency of 5.0 Hz.

(d) A horizontal platform vibrates vertically in SHM with a period of 0.20s and with slowly
increasing amplitude. What is the maximum value of the amplitude which will allow a mass,

6. (a) A rubber stopper 13g is attached to a 0.93m string .The stopper is swung in a horizontal
circle, making 10 revolutions in 31.4 seconds. Find the tension in the string. (02 marks)
(b) A body of 50g is whirled in a vertical circle of radius 60 cm .Determine the maximum and
the minimum tensions in the string when its velocity at horizontal position is 8 m/s (02 marks)
(c) A car whose wheels are 1.4 m apart laterally and whose centre of gravity is 0.5 m above the
ground moves round a curve of radius 60m . Assuming no slipping of the wheels on the road, find
the highest speed at which the car can round the curve without overturning. (02 marks)
(d) A mass of 1.5 kg is attached to a lower end of a string of 2 m whose upper end is fixed to
a rigid support. The mass is then made to move in a horizontal circle of radius 0.8 m . If the
circular speed of the mass is constant determine:
(i) The tension in the string; and (02 marks)
(ii) The period of the motion (02 marks)

7 (a) In the uniform circular motion, what is the relationship between the direction
of acceleration and velocity? (01 mark)
(b) A bob of mass 100g hung from the ceiling of a string 1.5m long and at a position of 6m
from the ground is set into oscillations.
The velocity of the bob at mean position is 2m/s. If string is cut when bob is at its
mean position , find
(i) the time taken for the bob to strike the ground (01 mark)
(ii) the velocity with which the bob strike the ground (01 mark)
(iii) the angle with which the bob strike the ground (01 mark)
(iv) the horizontal distance of the bob after striking the ground (01 mark)
(v) if the string is cut when the bob is at extreme position find the potential energy of the

(c) A gun kept on a straight horizontal road is used to hit a car, travelling along the same
road away from the gun with a uniform speed of 72km/h . The car is at a distance of
500m from the gun when the gun is fired at an angle of 450 with the horizontal. Find
(i) the distance of the car from the gun when the shell hits it (02 marks)
(ii) The speed of projection of the shell from the gun. (02 marks)
8 (a) Explain briefly the following concepts,
(i) Water in a bucket whirled in vertical circular motion does not spill out when whirled
fast, but when whirled slowly the water spills out (01 mark)
(ii) The international roads are always banked in the corner (01 mark )
(b) A particle moving with S.H.M has a velocity of 1.8 m ⁄s when passing through its mean
position and acceleration at 0.6 m from mean position is 2.4m ⁄s2 . Find the amplitude and
period of oscillation. (03 marks)
(c) A particle moving with S.H.M in straight line when the distance of particle from the
position has the values x 1 and x 2 , the corresponding values of velocities are u1 and u2
