WHY AM I ALIVE?

4
5

This is a fundamental question asked most frequently by people

who may to see themselves in situations which may seem

hopeless. But to some, it is a question that leads them to the

goldmines of their lives.

As we can see in Genesis 1:26-28 that we were created for a purpose and

that for every being existing, he/she has a purpose for being alive, a

purpose of being considered as a living being.

The birth of a child symbolizes joy to the family. But why is the child coming

now? Is a question that seems too difficult to answer. Sometimes people

ask this question “why are people coming into the world? Let’s get straight

to answering these questions that are being asked daily.

Firstly, before we were born, we were meant to become what was already

established and the only thing left for us to do is to work to the fulfillment

of destiny.

It is also worthy of note that we should consider the reasons why people

are born into the world.

5
6

These are a few reasons why people may exist

∙ People Exist to Lead: I would say that this is a major reason why

some people are existing. There must be someone who must give out

instructions, commands, must lead, direct and serve others through

leadership. Moses and many others in the Bible showed these

qualities. Without these people we will be without direction.

∙ People Exist to serve: Even as leader, one is such a leadership role is

born to serve. Some other people who may find themselves in this

group are meant to offer services and derive satisfaction from it. For

instance, the Levites were asked to serve at God’s temple all their

lives. Without these people, there are minor but essential services

which would have been neglected.

∙ People exist to stimulate: This group of people is the ones who steer

up the other groups. They motivate, criticize and also appreciate

others, which without them, things would not go on well in the

society.

6
7

∙ People exist to fulfill destiny: People in this category are often called

‘saviors’, because they are born just at the right time in order to fulfill

a purpose. And everyone in the world belongs to this category.

∙ People exist to causes: These categories of persons are very

noticeable and they do not hide wherever they are. Without the

existence of this group, nothing can go right. They are the ones who

cause the other groups to function well.

But coming back to the question ‘why am I existing? Yes, why are you alive?

Why are you counted to be among the living? Why are people still calling

your name in your neighborhood? Why are your parents concerned about

their children and children about their parents?

We have different views about it but the ultimate answer is ‘WE ALL EXIST

TO FULLFILL A PURPOSE’.

Yes! We are all born to fulfill our destines. After all, our lives were designed

by God before we were born and the routes of our lives were already

known by our Him, Jeremiah 1:5. We are the sum products of our choices.

We are at fault if we do not work our way out of our ‘uncomfortable zone’.

Every morning you wake you should always ask yourself ‘why am I alive?

7
8

This question will stimulate your mind to work towards finding a cause to

live for. If you do not have a cause to which you live for then you do not

have any reason to desire wealth and prosperity. The reason is simple;

nobody will give you their money in exchange for nothing.

You are alive to help others, you are alive to serve humanity, you are alive

to solve a problem, you are alive to be justified by your works, and you are

live to fulfill your destiny. What is your destiny? Who are you?

8
9

IS MY EXISTENCE A PROBABILITY?

9
10

From the last chapter, we have realized that no one was born as a result

of chance. Every human being that is alive was predestined to find himself

in that family and location that he is. This is to say that no matter how

poor or rich the family you find yourself, you were meant to be there.

Some people from a poor social background may ask ‘why was I not born

into a rich home? You cannot choose your parents before you are born, but

you can choose how you want your children to come and see you. You were

not supposed to be bearing the name of that ‘rich’ family because you are

meant to be the redeemer of your family.

In other words, the state we find ourselves is not an issue of natural

probability. So we do not have to keep wishing that we should have been

born into a rich family background. But if you keep wishing to have been

born into a rich family background, do you think that the rich wish they

were born into a poor background? It is ridiculous to say yes that they want

to. Here are some reasons you should not keep such a wish in your heart.

Firstly, you might not know the source of their wealth; you may not wish to

make the sacrifices they made to become rich. Some persons think that

people in wealth either inherited it from their fathers or it was stolen.

10
11

Somehow, they were meant to be there so they can help you who is a

lower social class.

Secondly, do you consider the fact that maybe if you were born with a silver

spoon that you might not have worked as hard as you are doing now. But

life is not a bed of roses nor is it a bed of thorns. Whatever you maybe face,

work hard, pray, nothing is too hard to try. Your life is not a probability; it is

destiny that finds you here. Why don’t you know the reason of your

existence and work towards fulfilling it.

11
12

IS MY FAMILY FORTUNATE TO HAVE ME?

12
13

Many may ask this question more often especially when things go wrong

in their families. They seem to lay down their tools to the evil call of

disappointment. They seem not to understand the fact that no family is

unfortunate to have them as family members. But some still insist that

they are unfortunate to be members of especially low-rated social class of

family. This is absolutely untrue.

You are a source of blessing to your family. You don’t know if you are the

one to end the problems of your family and redeem them.

You were born for a purpose. Your present situation does not determine

your future. Keep your expectations high, move on, and never mind what

you are facing now. Remain focused and God is ever willing to help you. In

proverbs 4:25-27 the Bible says ‘Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on

what lies before you. Mark out a straight path and stay safe. Don’t get side

tracked; keep your feet from following evil (NLT).

It doesn’t matter the family you are born into, it doesn’t matter the

situation you find yourself, you are the best person to handle it. Nobody is

in the most unfortunate situation, but you what you do when you find

yourself such instance is what determines your results. you should first take

13
14

the situation to God in prayer, and then sit down and meditate on what

God will give you as a solution to it. God will surely give you the wisdom to

handle anything you may be confronted with.

Success is not about family matters, but about your self-determination. It

depends on your ability to remain calm, to figure out the best solution out

of your challenges. No family is unfortunate to have you as her member.

You have to realize your role in the family and be your best at performing it.

14
15

AM I THE CAUSE OF MY FAMILY’S FAILURE?

15
16

No you are not, yes you are! There is something confusing about the

answers provided here. The first one says you are, and the second says

you are not the cause of your family’s failure.

Let’s take the first answer. Your family not being able to achieve what

others may does not mean that you are the cause. To some extent, the best

you have given is the best you can give, or maybe the field you are

specializing is not the right one for you.

On the other hand, you are the cause of your family’s failure if you reuse to

do what is expected of you. This applies to the case where you divert your

attention from the things that should help you build your life. This is what

leads to most failure experienced by people especially youths today.

In everything you do, you are expected to give your best at all times. You

need to be yourself, take decisions and stand by it, and be ready to face the

challenges that will come. Sure success is not achieved on the platter of

gold. You must encounter setbacks but that does not give you a conclusion

that you are the cause of your family’s failure.

16
17

Some people may trace their family problem to their ancestral background.

This helps to some extend but ‘all things have become new’ so says the

Bible. Yes! You must consider the past; compare it with the present to build

a better future. Stop blaming others for your failure.

Pictures don’t tell lies, so does mirrors. The mirror reflects everything about

you. So what do you see stirring at the mirror? You don’t need to believe

people to solve your problems. Just sit yourself down, take a look at your

past life; what were your mistakes and flaws? What have you been able to

correct since then? Do you still live that old life? Are you the same

personality in character?

But wait a minute! Were you living a good life at first? If not so, make

amends not to live a better life. My brothers and sisters, nobody can know

your best sides and your bad sides better than you do. Take time out to

examine yourself, point out your mistakes, your successes, if it means that

you should change some things about you, and then you should. If it means

that you should improve on it, then you should not waste time doing that.

17
18

THEN WHO IS THAT BARRIER?

18
19

To some extent, you are the cause of any misfortune befalling you. But

the barrier is nothing else than the choice you make and the kind of

advices you receive. There are people who had dreams and great plans for

themselves from childhood, and kept pursing this dreams until when they

were about to start a tertiary institution or in the course of attending it,

they got lost and deviated from their dreams.

They are people who are in misfortune situations as a result of their

choices. But the challenge is that they do not want to be found in that

situation alone, that is why they try hard to lure others in with them. It can

be compared to hell where the devil does not want to say there alone and

he is trying hard to get people there to experience his own tragedy. It can

be traced that Satan is in his present situation as a result of his choice.

The choice you make now determines your future state. What you listen

and choose now is what you will get in the future.

To the youths, why don’t you choose a particular field and master the

challenges you will face? Don’t let anyone get you side tracked from your

dreams and goals. The devil will not appear in a mask to tempt you.

19
20

Therefore, if you don’t want to be a victim of misfortune, make plans about

your future, know the challenges that you make face in the course of

achieving your dreams and lastly, lay it all at the altar of God.

There is nothing impossible for God to do. Since He is the one who created

you, He knows your destiny and inviting him into it means that you have

already achieved your destiny if you work hard. Remember that the barrier

cannot be seen but it is your mind.

Yes! Your mindset, your thoughts and your plans are they are the three

main keys to unlocking your destiny.

If you don’t trigger your plans by challenging your mindset, then you will be

bound to something that will hinder the fulfillment of your destiny.

Therefore, change the way you think about yourself, your life; your future

and also know the kind of advices you listen to. Because some people are

out there to lure others into misfortunes, while some are helping you out

because of the love they have for you.

20
21

WAS I BORN TO SUCCEED OR TO FAIL?

21
22

Surely, nobody was born to be a failure. But as mentioned in the last

chapter, it will depend on the choice you make. There are things that

were meant for a particular group of people but not for others.

This is what a lot of persons cannot see. Because of the other person’s

success you want to be like him. Although, success can be duplicated; but

you were not meant to a particular field you can never duplicate that

success. Let’s take a look at Abraham Lincoln who tried 13 professional

attainment life attainment lives but failed in all of them. It wasn’t because

of his intelligent quotient that caused that; it was because he was meant to

lead others and not to do what others were doing. He never gave up at his

vision.

If you see yourself in an unfavorable condition that might make you

consider yourself as the most unlucky person in the world, don’t panic

because there are other people who are faced worst challenges but

overcame them.

That is why I would tell you this;

When life seems unbearable, hold on

22
23

When the road seems longer than before, hold on

When the light seems to fade, hold on

When your strength fails, hold on

When you stumble more than once, hold on

When life gives you deadly blows, hold on

When you feel like quitting, hold on

When you feel weakened, hold on

When you feel cheated, hold on

When you feel like giving up, hold on

Try one more time and hold on

Life is rather challenging, but you have to be strong. I believe that there is

nothing like inborn failure. This sounds unacceptable but it is true. Ok let’s

prove.

Life is a series of challenges. Right from the day you were born you faced

challenges up till now. You faced challenges when learning how to cry, talk,

walk eat, learn, read, write etc. Even up till now you are still facing

23
24

challenges. Then if you had stopped learning, do you think you would have

been able to read and write or attain the educational standard you are?

Yes it was because you were not tired of trying and learning and there was

no other option again. You had to accept the challenges and learn. Coming

back to our argument, from the above illustration, we can conclude that life

is a series of challenges. When once you turn your eyes from your dreams

you had, you have given up but you have not failed. So you would have to

choose another field top work but will not achieve to the same extent,

what you would have done in your previous career.

This tells us that even if you fail in any area, try to consider if it was truly

meant for you. And another thing is that you should never give up in trying.

24
25

ARE MY NEIGHBOURS HAPPY TO HAVE ME AROUND?

25
26

How useful are you to your neighbours? This is a question that people

refuse to ask because they think it is not necessary. But this is very

necessary as without knowing what your neuighbours think and say about

you, you will not be able to know what the society requires of you.

We may not know the importance of our neighopours in our lives but with

their contributions, we are able to correct our ills. They are the ones who

talk about our behaviours to our neighbourhoood. They are the ones who

make us correct our mistakes and build up a more purposeful life.

But how are we rated in the eyes of our neighbiours? Do they see us as

living a purposeful life? Or do you they see us as living a life of violence?

They are the ones who see us more than trangers dop. They evaluate our

daily lives and compare to what they have been seeing elsewhere.

How important are you to your neighbours? How do they see you? Do they

see you as an achiever? All these questions are necessary to evaluate your

stand with yourself.

But are they happy to see you around/ are they pleased to know that you

are living near them? If you shouldtake you time out to answer these

26
27

questions, you will realize the impact of your neighbourhood. Neighbours

may not necessarily be the people that live in the same compound with

you. They are the people that have had a taste of your lifestyle.

In essence, your relationship stand with your neighbours determines how

well you will be able to relate with others. It also determines the motive of

your plans. This is because if you don’t fell the needs of your neighbours,

you may not see the service you can render to them.

27
28

WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE?

28
29

Pause! Who do you want to be? This is very different from ‘what do you

want to be? These are two similar but different questions that seems

confusing to many people. The first question asks you about the personality

you would like people to identify you as, while the second question is

asking of the career you want to pursue in life.

To many, this is not as important as it should be, why? It is because they are

carried away by ‘what’ they will become but not ‘who’ they want to be. As a

result, they cannot be the best in their field of specialization.

Who do you want to be? This is a question that should be ringing in your

memory every time, everyday. Do you want to be someone who is

respected by all? Or do you want to make people feel that you are not

needed?

These and many other questions are worth asking yourself. And answering

these questions gives you an insight to what you will become in future.

If you don’t know the kind of person you want to become in future, you will

not impart your knowledge on others. You will be like a boat without a

sailor. You will be mo0ving somewhere you don’t know. The world is made

29
30

of different people with different charaters and of which you need to be

conversant with.

You need to be a person who people will like to look up to; a person who

people will miss when ; a person who is valued, a person who’s moral

values are valued by people.

This is how to make impact because when you are dead, your legacies will

be remembered as a consequence of what you valued when you were still

alive.

From now on, you should determine to be. Someone who is valued by your

contemporaries. You should be a person that should be distinguished from

others. A person who stands at amongst the crowd, a person who is

respected for his high morals standard.

You should be planning of making impact on the society around you. You

should be ‘that person’ everyone should be proud of. Even when not

everybody will appreciate you, you should be yourself at all atimes.

Be the very best of who you want to be, don’t let another person

discourage you from becoming what you wish to be. As said in earlier

30
31

chapters, they are people who are determined to stop you, but prove to

them that with God you are unstoppable.

31
32

WILL PEOPLE BE HAPPY OF WHO YOU WILL BECOME?

32
33

Are you planning to become an armed robber or a thug? Are planning of

becoming that medical doctor that engineer, that Lawyer, that Banker,

Accountant? Are you ready to make an see will make others cry, never

become that person who take other peoples’ life, never become that

person who will rob other people of their money. Build yourself on the

basis of making people happy. Not only to know you happy in seeing have

you done the right thing and being of help to the society.

So many of us think that only comedians, are supposed to make people, no

that’s not true! Everyone has an inborn ability to make other people laugh,

smile, and happy. But the problem is how?

In any area of your speicialization, you should try to make someone happy

and confident in you. If you are a mechanic, make sure you offer your

customers the best; so doing, you will make someone happy.

Yes you must give in your best so as to make other people fell your

presence. People must make comments about your excellence. But don’t

be carried away because not everybody will like you. But n every case you

33
34

must be persistent. So that you will not lose the good reputation you are

once had. You must concentrate on doing your best and nothing less.

34
35

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP THE SOCIETY I FIND MYSELF?

35
36

The society need you everyday and you must be ready to give your best to

the society that brought you up. Never wonder what you will do because

there are many things you could do despite thet odds.

You can be the person whom the soceirty will rely upon. Yes, maybe you

arwe the p[erson that will change the way things are going on around the

people you livewith. You don’t need to be afraid of what to do becase there

are so manythings that are meant to be done by somebody. Maybe you see

something wrong at the wrong place, you can keep it at the right place.

Somebody will tell others about it.

I have come to discover that no matter how hidden our cativities may be,

there is one person who is looking at us. Yes, at least one person sees opur

secrets life. It may be God or a fellow human being who is just interested in

us and our daily lives.

This should prompt us to always do good beacsue we are being watched by

someone. Do the right thinig evern whn nobody is watching. Then we can

give our back to the society that brought us up.

36
37

Should also be that person weho is noted for good moral conducts, if you

get people to notice you as a bad type you will not get the attention but if

people notrer you as a good person, you will attract attention. This will also

make you tyo live up to expectation and it will make you want top live a

fullfiled life to the glory of God and for the service of humanity.

Never let peole not e you fas a person who destroys. Let them, note you as

a successful person who builds a firm foundation with the bricks others

throw at you.

If you know what is good, do it. If you know what is bad, don’t do it. It is

said that ‘the eveil men do lives with them.’ Therefore if yo are the type of

person who doesn’t mean good to the soceirty, then don’t expect good

from it.

From now henceforth, be that person who will make the better change in

the society, a person who will be respected for his high moral values. A

person who will be remembered even after his duty on earth. A person who

is worth of being called a role model. Be that change that the soceity needs,

now

37
38

HOW IS MY INFLUENCE ON YOUR GENERATION?

38
39

This question goes to our parents, leaders, and elders. But this question

that receive less attention from them. If they cannot answer this question,

then the country will not be relived of her troubles. Why? This is because

whatsoever they do is being copied by the younger generation who will

inculculate in themselves the habit of their leaders.

What have you as an elder in the society been able to impart in the lies of

the youths? Are you teaching them how to make progress in life? Are you

teaching them how to be dishonest? These and many other questions are

worthy of being answered by our elders and leaders.

Nowadays, our leaders are using the youths to cause problems in the

society. The leaders who are supposed t6o be servants are now using the

youths to fight for their selfish interest. This is rather a tragedy to be heard

of which it is not supposed to be so. Even our leaders of tomorrow are

allowing themselves to be used by politicians as instruments of destruction.

Our leaders should not the fact that whatever they do in their positions are

being noticed by the youths who will eventually take over their positions.

39
40

Therefore, our leaders, elders and parents should be watchful and cautious

of what they do, because the eyes of the youths are watching them, and

they will certainly do what they see their leaders do. This is how corruption

and sometimes credibility is passed from generation unnoticed.

O9urleaders, therefore, should follow this proverb which says ‘example is

better than precepts.’ And together we shall build a brighter society.

40
41

CAN I BOLDLY TALK ABOUT MY YOUTHFUL DAYS?

41
42

Yes can you tell people what you did when you were a youth? Can you be

bold enough to tell someone that you were honest enough? Even now

you should be able to answer this question.

Firstly, evaluate yourself from all aspects of living. Make sure you have in

details what you had been doing. Check very well if you used to do the right

thing when it was expected of you. From these self- assessments, you may

as well conclude and tell people who you were some days ago.

But amending your way the, than now will be too late for you. That is why

you should be very careful of what you do, say and what you involve

yourself into. This is because your words and actions will live after you and

will tell of you when you are gone.

This question should be considered most by the youths. You as a youth

should consider the things that you do know which will affect you. Be

watchful of what you do you because people are watching you. Make sure

you do your best all times.

42
43

43
44

WHAT ARE MY LEGACIES?

44
45

This is the question to be answered by this book. Legacies are those things

you did which can be looked upon by the younger generation as, something

that will help the live a fulfilled life. Legacies occurs as a result of the

purposeful life you lived. This can also be taken things we did on the post

Make sure that your legacies can be respected by others, it should be that

which held in high esteem by the people around you.

Your legacies should also be the thing you do which makes you outstanding

among the crowd, the things you do which makes you their favourite. Have

principles which will lead you to greatness and a successful life. Be the very

best, give the best at all times, never be that hypocrite but rather, be that

person who does the right thing at the right thing at the right time not

because it is the right thing, but because it is worth doing.

If you do these things and you really know the purpose of your being alive,

then be ready to launch yourself into the realms of greatness. May God

grant you (the reader) of the book the grace to live a life without recovering

mistakes? Amen.

45
46

Dear reader before you close this book you will do yourself a favour to

answer this question. What will people use to remember you when are

gone?
