Using Asteroids

in Human Design

Recovering Your Original Self

Why are asteroids important?
Asteroids are bits of rock floating in space.

There are thousands and thousands of them, many named af-

ter mythological characters from ancient Greece and Rome.

The big question is ... how do we incorporate Asteroids into

our understanding of the Human Design System?

And why would we bother?

Hi there, my name is Kim Gould. I am a co-founder
of MyDivine.Design.

Back in 2005 I was playing around with my Design

and thought I’d work out where my Ascendant
was. The Ascendant is so important in astrology, I
thought it must have something useful to tell me
about my Human Design.

As it turns out, my Ascendant was in one of my

bridge gates.

This was really crazy, it brought all my activation—

my four motors, my awareness, my Sacral re-
sponse — up to the Throat Centre for expression!

That was the day I ventured beyond the standard

Human Design chart …. and I never went back!

As I began to explore the Asteroids in my
chart, and in the charts of others I found
that they precisely and accurately reflect-
ed our belief systems and experiences.

I describe the asteroids as creating an activation, but not definition.

They don’t create channels or cause Centres to be coloured in on your chart.

For years I explained the influence of the Asteroids as being an adjunct to understanding our
charts, rather than something which changes the structure or mechanics of our chart. I believed
they were too subtle an influence for that.

However, after using them for many years and seeing the impact they can have on a person's life I
often advise clients to experiment with the idea that they may create definition.

Vesta in
Gate 30

For example if an asteroid is in a gate which will give definition to an undefined Solar Plexus Centre I
suggest the client experiment with waiting for emotional clarity to see if it helps with their decision
making process. My experience is that this type of 'experimentation' is very often useful.

Cindi Lauper has a very important minor planet called Vesta in Gate 30, which activates her Solar
Plexus Centre and her Root Centre. I would suggest she experiment with the possibility of having an
emotional wave (Solar Plexus Centre), and how grounding (Root Centre) that may be for her.

Uncovering the feminine in your design
There's another reason why asteroids are so im-
portant. In astrology and in the standard Human
Design chart there are only two female archetypal
energies – the Moon and Venus.

Amongst the standard planets, women looking for

an answer to that question – who am I? They are
searching for some reflection of their feminine self
and can only choose between the watery lunacy of
the Moon, or the potentially vapid beauty of Venus.

There is so much more to being a woman than

what we can find in those two archetypes!

Where do they live?

Most asteroids orbit within the Main As-

teroid Belt that sits between Mars and Ju-
piter.

They are thought to be the shattered rem-

nants of planetesimals, bodies within the
young Sun's solar nebula that never grew

There are strict conventions for
naming asteroids. Originally they
were named from Greek and Ro-
man myths, as were our planets.

The planets were generally given

masculine names and the asteroids
female names.

I say generally, because the well behaved asteroids (with the perfectly elliptical orbits
and predicable behaviour) were given female names and the unusual and unpredictable
were given masculine names.

However this system soon proved inadequate and these days asteroids are named after
all sorts of people and things. It's very likely there is an asteroid with your name on it!

There are a few things you should be aware of when looking at the meaning of the as-
teroids.

Some asteroids are more important than others.

Larger asteroids tend to be more significant. The so-called Goddess Asteroids are
some of the largest.

The name of the asteroid is also
significant.

An asteroid called Zeus is more

likely to play out archetypally in
your life than one called Katter-
field or Gaskin (yes they are actual
asteroids).

That’s because Zeus is part of the

cultural substructure.

Zeus is a part of our collective con-

sciousness.

Gaskin, by the way, was named after Regina Gaskin, a mentor in the 2003 Intel Science Talent
Search.

Secondly, don't take anyone else's interpre-
tation of the meaning of the asteroid as gos-
pel truth.

If you read a lot of material on the internet

about a particular asteroid you can find star-
tlingly different interpretations.

If an asteroid is significant in your design, read a range of interpretations, read the my-
thology, consider what's important to you. Look for what appeals to you and also what
makes you uncomfortable (what you might resist in the archetype).

Thirdly, some asteroids, like Lilith or Psyche
for example, are so complex and rich in
meaning that they can't be described in a
few keywords.

It's good to observe and experiment with

how you experience the energies over time
in your own life.

And, here’s how I learn most about the as-

teroids in HD—from listening to my clients
and being curious about their experiences!

A good way to find information is to google the
name of the asteroid along with the words Asteroid
and Astrology.

Not all of the tens of thousands of asteroids will be significant in your life. I recorded
this video to demonstrate how to find what’s really important to your client.

Make a note of any Asteroid that sits:

1. In the same gate as your Personality Sun, Moon or Mercu-

ry.
2. in a Bridge Gate
3. In a Gate to define a previously undefined Centre
4. Watch this video to learn more.

Don’t take anyone else's interpretation of the meaning of the asteroid as gospel
truth. If you read a lot of material on the internet about a particular asteroid you
can find startlingly different interpretations.

If an asteroid is significant in your design, read a range of interpretations, read the

mythology, consider what's important to you. Read the keynote interpretations on
MyDivineDesign.co. Look for what appeals to you and also what makes you uncom-
fortable (what you might resist in the archetype).

There are three books that you might find useful to help in your understanding of
the asteroids.

About Kim Gould
I started Love Your Design way back in 2003. At the
time I was living in a cottage near Byron Bay in Australia,
nestled amongst World Heritage mountains and rainfor-
est.
I have worked with people from all over the world, ex-
ploring their personal experience of their Designs and
also researching and exploring in areas that fascinated
me.
In recent years I have given more and more of my atten-
tion to my new body of work – Emergent Human De-
sign. It includes some new areas of Human Design – the
Subtle Layers of Human Design and using the Minor
Planets (including Asteroids) in your Human Design
chart. You can read more here.
